Random breakpoint replacement thread
category: parties [glöplog]
Considering what rc55 has to go through to host Sundown, I'm not sure I can picture a UK party with 1000 attendees.
I propose Scamp sets up a new party called Breakpoint, as he lives in Bingen and already knows the local council. It seems that all the pieces are in place to set up a party for next year.
Is there really a thirst for a fresh start? Fuck it, we all LOVE the hall, and even if you went back on your words and made a Breakpoint 2011, I doubt anyone would seriously complain, and if they did, they'd probably not go anyway.
It's akin to saying "sorry, no christmas this year." .... "oh actually we can!" - who would seriously be disappointed?

That said, he may as well have a god damn break from organising - I know I need one! :)
to be very honest and with all due respect for the breakpoint folks and the great job they did for a very long time, i for one wouldn't mind visiting some other place than bingen at easter for a change. except the uk ofcourse, because that country is the home of bike thieves, blitzbasic coders and quiz organisers :|
rc55: I'm just one guy out of over 60 in the breakpoint organizing team.
And most members of the BP organizing team would continue doing organizing work only with a fresh start. New concept, new team structures, new main organizer, new location. That's simply because we've done more or less the same thing for 6 years now, which makes things routine. There is not much thrill spending lots of your time and doing the same thing again and again. Even if the outcome is the worlds best demo party. We might should have started to restructure the team 2-3 years ago already. Party quality might have been lower due to less experienced people at the top of BP organizing, but then we might have had a chance for Breakpoint to exist longer than 8 years. But that's a matter of the past now.
I actually would be very happy to set up a new party, and who knows, maybe I'll be among those who offer a new concept to organizers, but there is a big catch: The main organizer has to be local to the location (see my post above), and within a radius of 50km or so, I can only think of locations that are worse than the current one, so most likely I'm out as the main organizer of a follow-up event. I'm pretty sad about this, but I still have no plans at all to retire from the demo scene in any way. I'll most likely have to find other ways to support the scene.

scamp: Ok, thanks for the exhaustive explanation. :)
So move to Fallingbostel!\o/
blitzbasic coders? I've had my nationality brought under criticism for many things, but blitzbasic?! that's utterly baseless!!!
meatboy: pete is a blitzcod0r!!! pete is no role model for the uk...
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=54513 :( Still, parapete isn't technically british so maybe we can exclude that.
i had a pet parapete once. you just need to give it dog food.
scamp, seems like you have to make happy hardcore tunes again then! :)
there is never enough happyhardcore \o/
Leia is not a Gathering organizer, neither has she ever been, and as such has no knowledge or basis to make any "official" comments on behalf of The Gathering.
Don't believe the haters. We are in fact very aggressive about making the most awesome SCENE party possible, and you may find you'll be surprised by some rather radical announcements in the quite near future.

the gathering is going to kill the original release rule?!
also, dog food <3
also, dog food <3
? so gathering is going to reverse the alcohol ban and do a scene party?
MeteoriK: Not necessarily. Just trust us. There will be a good solution for everyone.
so the gathering is moving to germany?!
and will kick all the gamers out?!?!
The Gathering is moving to Germany and will have a beer-tent infront of the main-entrance?
i'm really lookin forward to what will happen in the future and a new party would be ace, really. i think the gathering would be only an alternative if there really is nothing else happening on easter. and it would/could never attract so many sceners, simply as
- it is too far for people from the south (spain, france, italy, even southern germany, although there are "cheap" flights to rygge)
- it is too expensive for many people, especially from eastern europe (incl. travel costs etc... sorry, no offense :( )
- it is not sceners only and somehow could kill the mood. rly.
it's a bit unfair to aggresively tackle all people to "gather" them, until a new solution is discussed/out of sight.
but thats just my opinion

Menace: I appreciate all this, but seriously we were just discussing that the UK is way too expensive and now you're telling us a Norwegian gamer-oriented party wants to become the next Breakpoint?
Well, that's a little silly.
Well, that's a little silly.
Well, the gathering already has the setup. It's those damn gamers and the booze ban. Then again, assembly has the same problem and I go there (btw.. I'm not doing the tv this year.. we have a 64k to finish!). I guess if there's a pub/vacant forest nearby then "boozathering" is a possibility, but us drinkers would prefer not to be treated like 2nd class citizens..
Yes, norway is more expensive than the uk, but all of the groundwork is done. Sundown is tiny :-) (you should go though.. we have a beach, fish and chips and the now famous quiz)
What are you up to menace?

The scene is one of the very few places where people think of replacing a party with one in another country.
The demoscene and the squat-tekno-rave-scene :)
Wait a second, why is it that a demoparty in Norway is too far away for people in southern Germany but a demoparty in southern Germany is not too far away for people in Norway?
A lot of people are already traveling more than 1000km to get to Breakpoint.
Changing the location to for example Norway will only mean that the lazy ass compolurkers will be Norwegian instead of German. Those who already travels a long distance will still show up as long as it still is within Europe.
