How to get demos from the net onto vintage HW?

I have a friend that owns a bunch of "classic" hardware (VIC-20, C=64, Atari 800, etc.)
Can someone point me to a web site that describes mechanisms (serial port perhaps?) and methods for getting that cool demo from an internet archive onto the actual hardware to run?
Emulators are easy, but I'm talking the genuine article here.

Any method you can get your hands on. The most common solution is a custom made cable, I use that for C64 floppies. The nicest solution is a Catweasel floppy controller.
DJ Do you have links to sites for these solutions? I can get a custom cable made if that's all it takes. I imagine you need some software too, though, right?
afaik, for atari there's a thing like a data transfer cable (just like the one you use for amiga<>pc transfers), but better ask the atari guys for that matter.

Atari ST can read 720k MS-DOS disks as-is.
I used to use MSA (was that the name) to create 2 images from a floppy (one image won't fit in 720 usually) in an Atari emulator on PC. Then I loaded them onto the Atari where I wrote them back to an actual disk.
Same with DMS for Amiga, but you had to install a driver for MS-DOS disks there first.
Later I installed a terminal program on my Amiga and used a nulmodem and hyperterm on Windows to transfer the images.
And for my C64 I used a homemade x1541 cable and my 1541 drive, and Star Commander on my PC, to write the C64 disks directly.

i'm not at all into the old school but i heard there's software that converts data into .wav files that you can record from your audio out to a cassette for your c64. no clue if it's really possible at all, i just recall the possibility from somewhere.
