Mekka/ Symposium afterthought

yea, give points to *every* production. so if you have 21 entries, the one you vote 1st place gets 20 points, the one you vote last gets 0 points. and then force that votes are only valid if the sheet was filled out completly (quite easy when doing intranet voting). and add screenshots/downloadlinks to every entry, so that people know what they're voting for. would be a more fair voting system i guess, because sometimes there are more than 3 good entries in a compo, and you can't decied which ones get 0 points and which ones get 1, 2 and 3 points.

kb_: I don't think this is really a question because I _want_those_orga_chicks_ ;) Let's do it like boxing: one chick in front holding up the current entrynumber and a couple of others handing out votesheets...would be a blast (oh, and let's have some males for the girls there, too)!

But seriously: I don't think forcing ppl to vote for ALL the demos is the right way. robotriot - how would you fill out those forms as the party is going on? "Now, this entry number 21 was better than 13, but worse than 8, but was ist better than 2? Ups, forgot what I liked about No. 2". Don't forget: Most ppl will be awake for really long, tired as hell and propably drunk. So this kind of rating isn't quite feasable.

Giving every Demo a rating from let's say 1-10 points would be more like it. But then you could have more than one winner. And: what about ppl who don't vote for prods? So forgetting or lazyness would be counted as 0 points. No good. And the average would lead to really close results. Besides - votefaking would be quite easy as the "i hate group xy, i give them a 0" would have quite an effect here.

Sorry, i still haven't got a good idea about this. Therefor no entry in the ms forum for now. But as soon as I got it, i'll post it there. promise ;)

delax: in that case you only choose the demos you remeber best and select just anything for all the other places. of course, you could say then the results are sort of totally wrong, because someone might give a crappy joke demo more points than to a minimalistic style demo, because he can't remember them anymore. but in fact, results are already fucked up at current parties, so it wouldn't make a difference :) besides, you don't have to think about this decision for hours, if you place something 5th or 6th, because there's only 1 point difference.

another thing, what ever happend to the tradition of showing the winner demos during the price-ceremony?
was never a tradition on MS.

macaw, sometimes we did, sometimes we didn't... the big problem about that is digging out all those winner entries, like, finding all the video tapes, finding the compo pc ;) and getting all the obscure hardware the winner entries were running on... add this to "organizers who are really tired and just want to get rid of all the people in the hall and certainly DON'T want to have stress on a monday morning after 3hrs of sleep because of the long compo night and the manual votefa\H\Hcounting (sheets and such)", and i think you have a pretty goo reason why we don't. Might work out for small pc-only parties where reshowing the winners is really just a mouse click, but doesn't work out for us, sorry :)

Nice thread revival. 4 hours of demo compo - that's almost unbelievable by today's standards. Wish I was into demoscene back then (and a bit older too, I was 14 in 2002).

we definitely didn't replay anything from the ms2002 democompo, neither during the compo nor afterwards.

and the only thing that crashed and burned during a compo was the compo amiga, which actually caught on fire.
