Demoscene.TV needs you

category: general [glöplog]
hahaha, daxx, you soo talk out of your ass it's funny.

500/30/10=1,66 euro per view generated thru ads? i dunno in what disneyland you live in but if you can get 0,15 euro per view you're already quite fortunate and usually only happens in niche-marketing where advertisers are crazy enough to pay more than the general 'few cents per view'-rule cos they're interested in the specific potential customer segment. and i doubt demosceners are that interesting.
Not to mention that ad prices keep sinking. 0.5 Cent(!) per Page View would be a good offer.

Maali:

I agree with you, it was a bit extreme with 500 Euros... I just though about the TV ad. They get 50.000k for 1 ad... ;)

But not so extreme like thinking, that 1000 Demosceners will donate €50 to reach the 50k. :) Or 2000 Demosceners donate €25?

however ... as long as there is enough for champagne... :)

daXX: i respect your criticism, a debate was clearly needed to help transparency but your arguments sounds too self-centric imho : have you ever considered that DTV is doing an impressive job to promote demos outside the demoscene (like some german associations), and isn't only an internal service from hardcore sceners to hardcore sceners ?

i'm thankful towards DTV team and Willbe for their opening and popularization work (like some other sceners but they aren't directly concerned by this thread).

aftu... they sure do... but at last the question isn't answered: who cares for all other demosceners which doing a nice job?

but this discussion is endless... its a subject about money and that'll always overtaxed...

daXX: that's actually a good question.

As sceners get older, some may get bigger salaries, some may have less time to dedicate to the scene, so why not imagine a *mutual* fund financed by sponsors and donations, managed by a foundation over several countries, with a *total* transparency and no internal budget, to support scene sites and events ?

aftu.. that sounds indeed good.. lets see what other sceners think about :)

i guess it would be scene.org or similar to scene.org, but maybe bigger with more transparency ;p

Isn't gloom the CEO of the scene?

it's not the money per se, but there are other solutions that shoot d.tv in the foot. there are plenty of volunteers who rip videos and toss them on youtube, the HD stuff is sufficient! I can't recall having to go to d.tv specifically to watch something as a video. Less party streaming would be a loss tho, however, in the last two years i hardly saw d.tv covered partystreams anyway and mostly hosted by scamp's organization, so i guess we already lost that part of the service. So i wish them all the luck with the iPhone app, but it aint gonna cut it, i can tell that in advance :P
here's a nice solution tho: since the demoscene has its roots in piracy, we should send gloom and some norwegian tough guys to Somalia and they should enter oil ships. we then sell the oil to obscure third parties and use those profits to finance gargaj, alien and tsr to do their admin duties. with the rest of the money we buy cocaine and champagne and give it away for free at parties!
i always thought d.tv worked with every demoscene-party organisation? :(

ps: aren't demoparties a good example of democratical voting assemblies ? ;)

people there could vote for some representants and some general how-to-spend-money guidelines.

you should stop looking for solutions about problems that do not exist anymore.

willbe, daxx only reads the first line of posts and then writes long rants. thus, he never got the memo that DTV has no employees anymore.

free cocaine at parties would be a nice service.

Not sure about french tax/social security expenses (if DTV is tax-based in france), but paying 3300 euro/gross for a 1700 euro/net salary seems a bit over the top. In Spain (and we pay social security and tax retention aswell), a 1700 net salary sums up 25k (25.757€) gross/year.

Btw, I was not commenting on DTV status, just that that tax amount is quite high, which surprises me

okkie: I was, until some french wieners went and created such an uproar about my 102.000 EUR a year salary, so I had to step down.

Jcl: In Norway it is quite normal to pay at least 40% income tax.
