I got same kind of reaction about websites and viruses from one my fellow last month.

I give him a url (I want to show him what a good flash website is supposed to be, cause first he show me one to "impress me" but that was total crap).

When he saw the first page, his answer was "eeew, a chinese website, the kind of place were you always get lots of viruses, do you think i should really continue?".

Unfortunatly this was not a joke, he was really serious :(

the funny part is that this guy has been in the IT business since more than 10 years (and is better paid than me :() (fortunately he is not a programmer working directly for me, thanks god...)

hmm, i don't think it's trough porn, unless you go for non-streaming porn, but you have to search for that nowadays if you'd actually want it.

most people get virii these days by downloading keygens and cracks from obscure sites instead of trusted torrents, or with kids this is clicking the "oh, is this you naked?:o http://www.imagehack.us.com/your@email.com" links in msn.

I watch porn. I do other weird things.
My laptops uptime: 12 days.
And Ubuntu is installed for 3 years on it. (Since version 6.04)
It is 4 years old (i throw the disc with xp to a shreder)
And works without any glitches, with two sessions one gnome desktop and one StumpWM.
Never heard about viruses on it.

WTF. I mean, seriously, WTF?
Why THE FUCK you would NOT run with firewall? Is it that ppl are afraid it somehow degrades the FUCK out of your machines performance?

more like.. cant be bothered to install one? i must admit during my XP time i didnt run an AV or firewall (dunno if the windows embedded one was on) either cos frankly, what are the odds? also if you're behind a good router there's no need for a firewall as well :P

Yeah. Behind router and NAT is good, but if you're on a laptop and moving around.. Vista and 7 includes good two-way firewalls so no need for external with them..

but without firewall and a laptop, moving around.. thats just plain stupidity :)

USE GNU/LINUX that for sure will kill plane stupid attitude (you do not a firewall, at least you need to know what you do when you install SSH)
otherwise is nice to hear that M$ haven't sorted their problems with viruses yet:) (at least not with GPL on. He he)

I know, I ALMOST got that one but I have most media plugins for firefox disabled and since this incident, I use NoScript as well - I don't see a way how I could get infected thru my web browser, unless some zero day exploit for flash or firefox happens to be installed on a website that I visit often (like pouet back then).

how can you tell there is no virus on Linux/Mac? there is no way to find out! no virus detection program..

on Windows I can run a scan, with some free app or web applet even, once or twice a year and see that I'm still good to go :)

As soon as there will be a virus on linux no one will know.

so the choice basically is:
-fuck all the hoes you see but wear 3 layers of comdon at a time
-try to know the one you gonna fuck with and put the comdon if you're not sure
-masturbate

1. there are antivirus programs on Linux
2. Linux is based on open source, and nobody smuggle virus into it (at least not as as spyware)
3. that means that you still need to masturbate:)
