If cats do go deaf, then they tend to seek closer companionship with their humans, to make up the missing stimulus. This is noticeable in a standoffish cat which gets older and more affectionate at the same time :-)

Nah, it's used to channel sound to the cats ears. But seriously, you can get hearing aids these days, there's no need for ear trumpets and the like. ;)
