Feature suggestion - upcoming parties

category: general [glöplog]
Would be nice to see a box of upcoming parties with a countdown in days or a date and website link or stuff...

As BarZoule said!

btw, just out of curiosity... why demoparty.net lists (in the "Upcoming parties" section) these upcoming parties:

Compusphere 2009 Aug, 28th - 30th
Chaos Constructions 2009 Aug, 29th - 30th
Riverwash 2009 Sep, 4th - 6th
Sundown 2009 Sep, 11th - 13th
XzentriX 2009 Sep, 11th - 13th
Function 2009 Sep, 18th - 20th
Stream 2009 Sep, 18th - 20th
Silesia Party 3 Sep, 18th - 20th
Alternative Party 2009 Oct, 23rd - 25th
Kindergarden 2009 Nov, 20th - 22nd

and completely skips everything happening in octobre except altparty - i mean main, bytefest, trsac, syntax which are actually in the ical feed? is there a reason? (thing is, I added main *before* noticing it was already there).

(this is mostly a question to demoparty.net, but I couldn't find an email to ask them)

the last two parties, as poti explained it to me, are also weighed on interest - i.e. how many people are signed up

A useful new feature indeed :)

hey, great new feature!

So TRSAC isn't listed because too few people have signed up yet?

If I understood that correctly, I must say I find that a bit strange. First of all: small parties need advertising to attract a larger crowd. Hiding those small parties from the "upcoming parties"-box hardly helps. And secondly: 70 people have signed up so far. That's pretty good for a danish scene-only party these days. So how about supporting it, by at least showing it in the "upcoming parties"-box regardless of size and attendees?
Love it :D

I can't complain, that's exactly how it should be, and it's an excellent new feature - which means I can't understand how it's on Pouet.

Hopefully people will now remember to USE demoparty.net to have their party announced, and by that I mean: Guys and Gals, announce your party EARLY at demoparty.net - if you plan it in December 2009 and the party is in May 2012, but you have everything confirmed - don't WAIT and then complain when someone else (plans|plans to go to) another party. Just get it on demoparty.net so people can PLAN and BUY TICKETS EARLY.

Finally: mass props to poti et al for maintaining demoparty.net because it rules. (You gonna get so spammed now with new users and stuff that you prolly will have to beat Gargaj up for implementing it so well (: )
Ferris: for you to be able to speak about demoparties first you MUST attend blockparty! :P
Anyways useful feature indeed, thanks a lot Gargy.

@Gargaj: got it, and it's perfectly reasonable... only a bit confusing!
Thank you for the tool and the info :)

First of all: The exported RSS works differently than the list on demoparty.net. Secondly: TRSAC's signup list is independant of demoparty.net's.

i agree with nutman though that using the demoparty.net "who's coming" list for weighing the "importance" of a party plainly sucks - especially considering how little that feature of the site is used. it'd probably get a lot more popular if it'd allow people to say they're coming without having to make a demoparty.net account, but right now it just doesn't really work.

so i agree with nutman that i think it's a really bad thing that parties are discriminated away from the public view simply because of some plainly incorrect stats.

I also approve of the feature. BB Image

But I do think smaller parties should be listed, too. There can't be so many that they need to be filtered by popularity.

it's only always the last two parties on the list, which are usually months away - questionable, but i think it makes sense considering that they usually are parties people pay more attention to.

By the looks of it, TRSAC is going to be at least as big as Sundown this year.

there's no data-relation between what demoparty.net serves and what pouet.net has. of course, one COULD write an ass-size hack for it, but that'd just elongate the issue for days on end.
