Cosplay and transhumanism might both be crude concepts, but they are not related in any shape or form.
But they both fit the agenda.
And that is to de-humanise humans, humanise machines, virtualise life and create some sort of merging culture.
See WoW, Second Life, Metropolis Cult in Pop Music etc.
While movies like Ghost In The Shell are a poetic warnings from things to come, the media creates a hype (say: cosplay) and makes it "cool" and appreciable to become an artificial avatar instead of yourself.
Best new hype movie probably will be "Surrogates"
Anyway...sticking to topic

Aw come on, cosplay as in wearing costumes far predates any form of media i can think of. As long as they're having fun and we can feel morally superior ("haha, at least i'm not animu fan"), there's nothing wrong with that.
Boot Hill!
Ah, Carlo Pedersoli and Mario Girotti (aka Bud Spencer and Terence Hill) :)
