Hey micksam, my emails have been bouncing I think, so just wanna remind you to fix up the demoscene.us editor and forum when you get the chance. :)

Phoenix - Yes, a hectic low-notice server move that put me outta cash and out of time for a bit. My mail server is back up and I fixed Demoscene.us, the wordpress thing: you needa press the little down arrow to get the editor menu to display.

Anyway, since godaddy bsed me with some billing right after, I need a bit of cash to get the domain back. If anyone wants to donate, paypal stuff to micksam7@gmail.com - $40 for domain reg, I had enough for the old price [$20] so if someone wants to help, it'll be appreciated!

micksam: i would definitely go with a choice of sd/hd if you're going to do hd.. there's a lot of times when you don't want to burn that much bandwidth :) Vimeo does it well - it plays SD, and there's a HD button to turn on high quality.

Also, a request: could the download link be placed outside the flash, in the html somewhere? Stuff like iphone will happily stream + play the h264 video, but fails utterly with flash. It'd make it an awesome mobile demo watching service too :D

Feature-request: can you put the link to download the MP4 in the txt under the Flash window as well, and not just as a button in the Flash element? Reason being: the iPhone/iPod Touch cannot render the Flash element, which is annoying, since it CAN show the MP4 I guess :)

I'll add the external mp4 link right now, but let me know how well the videos run on iPhone.

One thing with capped, the encoder tends to use high-complexity settings which don't run well on slower devices.

So I'm not sure if they'lll run on iPhone at all :)

Micksam7: You were partly right - it didn't run, but it wasn't because the device was slow, it has something to do with the settings I think. It just says "Cannot play movie". Dang!

gloom - try now, was fiddling with url stuff, may have been 404'd.

iPhone only plays Mainlevel 3.0 x264.
I used these x264 parameters and it plays beautifully on iPhone 3G:
x264.1183.exe --profile baseline --level 3 --ref 1 --no-mixed-refs --bframes 0 --no-cabac --vbv-bufsize 10000 --vbv-maxrate 10000 --crf 20 --threads auto --output stargazer_iphone.video.crf20.mp4 stargazer_iphone.avs

I have been wanting to implement low-quality streams and low-bitrate streams for slower devices/connections. I guess I'll needa get around to it soon.

CAPPED 'HD'

New:
- Max video size is now 960x600 [whichever is hit first]. For those capturing to capped, capture at 1920x1200/1920x1080 and scale down by two [so it's 960xN] if you can. Much <3 in advance. Bitrate quality will be kept the same.

Oh and note, if you uploaded a capture and it was resized down, all captures uploaded after April are being re-encoded right now at the new size.

Really nice work! This is probably been requested before but would it be possible to create a torrent each month/quarter with with all videos in the highest quality you have for that time period?

I want them all localy but it would save you bandwidth and us time if there just exists a torrent for it with them.

I would be happy to help seed such a thing and I bet a lot of others here would do the same thus sparing your bandwidth.
