3D acceleration kills the demoscene
category: offtopic [glöplog]
I only want a compu that has the option of running good ol' dos stuff. I wouldn't wanna code for DOS anymore. give me DX/OpenGL anytime (which is a bitch anyway).
I wouldn't expect a newer system (read: computer, videocard, etc) to be compatible with old dos standards.
My latest comp is a PII which still is able to run a lot of DOS stuph. (have GUS etc) I'll keep this compu for only this reason.
For the rest: I want my gazillion polys with DirectX and hardware etc. Hardware rules. even thinking about the question if hardware-coders should be inferior to software-coders is a waste of brain-time.
How about this:
Performance/Logic Design had a little trick. On a 486 they found an EXTRA timer somewhere in the CMOS.
two timers for the price of one. (ofcourse this didn't run well on the newer Pentium systems, which in most cases had abandoned this CMOS timer)
Is this hardware-coding then ? And inferior ?
just code and make nice things.
Or leech pr0n and wank all day...

Geez, now I feel really stupid about writing my own "the scene is dying!" thing a little ways back...
(hangs head in shame)
I guess it's an affliction.
And as for the HW/SW Win/DOS etc./etc. arguments:
If it works for your production, then it is the correct choice.

talking is useless.
act.
act.
What about smthing like a 1.4Mo-large demo ?
reed: "..and get back in line.." (someone please follow up :)
follow up immediately, officer!
For fuck's sake people...
The scene may not be dead, but I sure as hell wish this thread would die...

I want to know if OpenGl is faster than Direct3D ? I think yes, do they include the same functions ?
openGL is true master because you are gay.
The second longest thread on the BBS and its a "scene is dead" thread. Ironic... :)
my opinion is that software is nicer. all this different gfx cards..
lack of porn in demos killed demoscene
demos killed the scene
nice to see skarab being a whole brand new man at the end of this thread, after all he started it.
now the last man standing is six feet under and so is msdos except this one i kept in a drawer till yesterday ::::> http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=7767
ahem
lack of lacking killed the lack of something.
hum...I obviously started coding 3D stuff with an own software engine. I did a big mistake, that was the high resolution (800x600x16) and the rendering quality (specular gouraud shaded transparent objects...with ZBuffer etc...). So it was very slow and more a slideshow although I coded very fast mmx optimized assembler routines for rendering.
Anyway...it was good to learn the basics...and now learning OpenGL with the knowledge what's behind a ZBuffer, backface culling, shading, clipping, the pipeline...etc. But hardware does not kill the scene I think....amen

hwaccel sucks. it makes all demos look the same.
Flaming hardware acceleration/Windows/whatever kills the demoscene.
In my opinion you can make a nice demo in various ways... Depends on the platform.
I don't really care if the triangles are rendered in software or hardware, it's what you do with them.

I predict that in 5-10 years a new thread will be opened in pouet:
Topic: "Hardware raytraced demos kill the demoscene"
Body: "You are all lamers. Make oldskool OpenGL flyby's instead and be kewl."

amiga is cewler than a pc!
dos is better than windows!
gus only intros suck dick!
using x87 is lame!
only idiots are running a bbs nowadays!
moron threads, demoscene is progress. fight.
