rich, honestly wondering here: you've been working on that book for over 3 years or such now - how many pages is that one going to become??
kbab Well its not 3 years full-time. Noone is paying me to write this book (I won't get paid until its finished and selling and even then, it won't be any significant sum of money that I could live on). I'm writing the book that I wanted when I looked for Direct3D books. However, I also have a full-time job besides working on the book and I have a house that needs tending, I try to get outside and go hiking, have a life beyond computers, etc. All of those other things take away from time to work on the book.
Its also a very large project. Currently its about 800 pages at 8.5x11 size. Because of the size, I've recently decided to split it into two volumes. (Are you getting the hint yet that its a big project?) Volume I will be core runtime interfaces (including assembly shaders) and Volume II will be D3DX and high-level shading language. There's still probably 300-400 more pages to write before both volumes are finished.

gee, legalize, any chance of a freebie of your book? ;) Guys, one thing thats bothersome about this thread is the way we all write/speak to one another. Think of it: the guys from breed who make very nice artwork are trying to expand, and isn´t that a good thing for the democommunity? They didn´t come out and say: "watch out farbrausch and co., it´s us now we´re better than all of you and gonna kick your ass". Or did they? Chill out everyone.
800 pages? I think I'll just wait for the movie version, or at the very least a comic book adaptation.
thom: the printed docs come out to about 1500 pages and they don't always give the full poop and nothing but the poop on how the stuff works. Like I said, its a big project. Everyone else who writes a book on this just skims the surface.
