RIP Amiga Demoscene Archive
category: general [glöplog]
The irony is that i rarely have a virus. I stay away from dodgy websites and never download illegal wares, use torrents,... Which makes this even more frustrating.
z5: that helps, but if some company somewhere gets hacked and you visit your favourite, most trusted site, that site might be displaying adverts from the site that got hacked containing something nasty. It's really near impossible to avoid some risk unless you disconnect from the internet :(
noscript really helps. :)
As well as using alternative operating systems and/or browsers. The bad thing is that it will work only as long as they're not targeted by the same criminals. Still, running an OS that makes a proper difference between admin priviledges and regular users helps.
i've never been infected with a virus and all my apps are warez. maybe my computer just has a strong immune system.
By the way - this is probably the same botnet/trojan system that infected various scene sites earlier this year. Back then virus scanners didn't detect trojan part, a rootkit detection tool was needed.
Also, two other sites hosted on untergrund.net have been hit by it during the last 2 weeks.
(This is how it works: Infected PCs are searching the local PC for password (logins, banking, paypal etc) and sending them to the botnet. The botnet instructs other infected PCs to login using those stolen FTP accounts, downloading all files like index.html, index.php, main.php and a few other siminar names. Those files then get some iframe html code embedded, the file is then re-uploaded. The iframe loads a browser exploit kit trying various browser exploits from another hacked server. The browser exploit kit, if successful then installs the trojan onto the browsers PC. And then the game starts from the beginning...)

That would be one and half year ago actually... And yes, I immediately thought of that incident.
My sense of time is amazing. Ok, one and a half year ago then ;)
Just want to conclude this topic by saying that the site is online again. Forum should follow soonish.
Big thanks for the person who offered help, recoded the site and put it online again. The website is in good hands now. Also thanks to scamp/untergrund for allowing it back online.

Yay, good news. \o/ Thanks z5.
Best news! Thx!
mega great!
z5: Who will now be adding new prods? still you ?
Why the fuck do you need to know who adds the prods? Someone will add them, isn't that enough information for you?
I think it's very much undecided at this point. I will certainly move into the "background" a lot more. The code aspect is in very good hands. For the content, maybe a couple of motivated admins. At least more people than before. I'm not really the man to discuss this with.
I'm sure all will be discussed in the forum when it's back online. Main thing was to get it operational again. The rest, we shall see.
Also, it's not me you should thank.

@dodke: because he didn't want to be mailed with the question "when is the site going to be online again" :)
it's todi/Tulou, as you can see on the info page.

On a serious note, thanks to Todi (and all other people who helped to bring ADA back), much appreciated!

@Stingray: Maybe it's time to bring back Dr. Strangelove now, so the other coders can concentrate on HTML-code. :)
The forum is up now also, enjoy!
