Trance and Electronic music parties

category: general [glöplog]
I was looking at http://www.trance-energy.nl/te2009/video/ and I would really like to save up and get some tickets to go next year.

I was wondering have any of you all been to events like this? and are their similar or better parties that are thrown annually or something similar?

Tell me what your experiences are and what other parties are there. (no demoparties I'm looking for raves)

There are a lot of good electronic festivals throughout europe every summer. The ones I know focus on more psychedelic trance variations.

as we speak there is the full moon festival; http://www.fullmoon-festival.com/

pros: nice people, nice atmosphere
cons; not enough of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_fytR3byKk and too much of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA0_XATM3Rs

vuuv festival germany: http://www.vuuv-festival.eu/

pros: impressive festival, imressive lights, impressive bandlist, impressive everything

cons: this is where techno viking and his freinds go to festival (but they usually behave well, or are to drugged up to cause any trouble)

and my own fave. Fusion festival http://www.fusion-festival.de/

Pros: everyting, youll get to hear house, drum'n'bass, trance, psytrance, detroit techno from several scenes playing at all time. Whatever your style, fusion properbly hired your favourite DJ at some point. The area is nice, the folks are nice...

Cons...people speak in German?

Another noteworthy mention which I think unfortunalæyl is not held this year is BOOM festival in portugal. It is the best festival on the face of the planet.

The reason I share festivals is because the ticket prize are often close to those big commercial trance events, but festivals will give you so much more experience for your money, and the amateur warm ups have been my personal highligts at many festivals, more so than the big names i came to hear.

If you're looking for raves, I suggest you timetravel back to 1992 and go clubbing in the UK.

You should check one in portugal, every year in september. Boom festival. Every year at least 1 guy dies from overdose. It's that cool.

Ive been 2 party's of Armin van Buuren. Both where totally awesome. But I didnt like the last few years of Trance Energy sets so i never went to those party's, tough im thinking of going next year.
and xernobyl, atleast try to get your facts straight.. makes you look alot smarter when trying to act like a know-it-all.. boom festival isnt an event they hold every year.. they organize boom every second year..

and to top it off, are you implying that 1 person every year die from an overdose due to a the festival beeing held? personally i'd say that 1 person overdose due to lack of judgement..

i guess thats about it.. retard..

Wow. This is some awesome information. I may want to check out some others. I still want to go to Trance Energy the most though.
and I've heard of some of these trouble makers some of you mention, don't get why they are made such a big deal though.
I'm going to look into some of these events and if you have more suggestions and advice, please share.

it is not that they are trouble makers at the parties, because truth be told, more often than not, they are behaving just like everybody else there. This said, I know a lot of peopole who feel slightly intimidated by their way of addressing eachother and other people (although they mean no harm by it).

(having this guy dancing next to you with a head full of drugs and an attitude that tells you that he properbly has a serious criminal record can be intimidating to some, so it is worth a mention, tis all)

The video in the first post.. is the track used the current status of the trance genre? If so: not much fucking happened in the last 10 years, eh?

Gloom: it was the official "anthem" of Trance Energy (Rank1 - L.E.D. There Be Light)

Does the music HAVE to change to stay good? Also it did change some - but this track is of course a general and very normal trance track. Did I mention that I think it's an awesome track? :) (of course the focus is still on melodies and phat synths... but why should that change?)

Puryx: That's sort of funny, because I was about to say something like "Sounds just like Rank1". :) It doesn't have to change of course, but I somewhat feel that trance lacks a bit of the progressive touch that house and breaks has gone through.

Nothing wrong with trance though, I enjoy a lot of it, I just think it's sort of strange that it's has been almost at a standstill for a decade.

gloom: depends on the types of trance you listen to - "normal" trance is of course still... normal ;) - however a lot of trance these days use elements from both house, progressive and even harder genres. There's nothing really groundbreaking stuff - but I guess it's hard to do "real" groundbreaking stuff in any electronic genre.

btw, I was close to visiting Trance Energy this year... maybe next year ;)

Actually, I would love a list of tracks that are worth listening to these days (you can skip the "normal" (aka mainstream) stuff:) since it is always a bit of a digging job to find the gems when you haven't visited the genre for a long while. :)
added on the 2009-06-22 10:22:06 by gloom gloom
Gloom: I'll see if I can come up with a list - don't expect it the next couple of days though - TRSAC planning (yay!) and girfriend-care is up for the next days ;)
