Alternative Party 2009

category: general [glöplog]

Compos for Alternative Party 2009 are now at our new site altparty.org/2009/competitions

Alternative Party 2009 bring two very special guests to Finland this year, the ARM designer Sophie Wilson and electronics specialist Jeri Ellsworth.

At Alternative Party, Sophie Wilson will tell about her early days at Acorn Computers. She designed the ARM and its successors became the most popular processors in many kinds of low-power computer systems from Internet routers to music players, PDAs and mobile phones. Party
visitors will have the chance to see the prototype for the Acorn System One, the very earliest of the Acorns.

Jeri Ellsworth is a self-taught computer chip designer. In 2004, she designed Commodore 30-in-1 Direct to TV - a C64 emulator built into a joystick, capable of playing 30 famous C64 titles - and expandable to a full Commodore 64 computer system.
At the Alternative Party Jeri Ellsworth is going to do an episode for her internet reality tv: The Fat Man and Circuit Girl. The episode will be broadcast on live.

I wonder why in the scene everyone says price instead of prize. It happens like in every party.

Because you have to pay entrance fee, so you just get your price back!

3000 EUR?? WTF? Is the Finnish mafia laundering money thru alt.party or what? How did you get that kind of cash for PRIZE money in theese economical crisis times?

Ok this time it would be cool if the compo would actually work.

please pre-record every entry, and make sure you have actual hardware to run shit, and not some mac or linux crap with windows emulators :-)

Yeah, the technical difficulties of last year were quite memorable. I had a great time, though (laughed a lot) ;D. This year, could you make sure that you don't have to be seated in front of the big screen all the time to get information? Last year we were hanging out in the pub quite a lot and we missed a lot due because we didn't get any info about schedule changes etc. Maybe a speaker announcement a couple of minutes before deadlines and compos etc?

Sounds exciting to hear about the early days at ARM. Last year's seminars were great and I hope the ones this year will be just as great :).

We did give them both MP4 and DVD video recordings of our demo. They failed to play each of them several times. So pre-recording makes no difference.

Evil:

I'm _STILL_ pissed off that you gave us all that stuff and it didn't happen right. That is NOT going to happen this year. Period.

First off, you have 3 people other than me making sure it happens, and then, you have me making damn sure it happens.

It is NOT going to ruin shit like last year. It isn't. I wanted to talk to you about that at Outline but I didn't see you. Just, well, if you do bring something, we'll be SURE it works before it gets in front of people. Period.

And that doesn't just go for DHS, but everyone.

Also, it is not going to cost 3k euros to enter, and I know I just said our quality control is better this year and that doesn't really prove it, but, well, I can't speak Finnish despite living here so I shouldn't complain too much about language issues.
ps, the quality of the recordings turned out to be really bad audiovise, kari was supposed to make somekind of compilation out of them anyway but hasnt done it yet, i'll ask him about it.

nosfe: can you mail me his email? maybe some outsider pressure might help push it out...

Truck: It's fine, I was a bit dissapointed at the time being but it's in the past. We'll try to make a new demo for next time and hope for the best :)

Sorry for the typo with word "price"
The line should be: The prizes for Alternative Demo Competition is 3000 euros.

to be more clear:
The total sum of all the compo prizes is not confirmed or known yet but we'll let you know as soon as we know. The main compo "Alternative Demo Competition" will have prizes of at least 3000 euro in cash. More info as soon as compo team /content group has made some tough decisions and when we know more.

Bit more of the compos at blog http://www.altparty.org/2009/blog/item/items/cc01.html
and of course in compo site http://www.altparty.org/2009/competitions
and (in Finnish) http://www.altparty.org/2009/blog/item/items/alternative-party-tukee-turun-kulttuuripaeaekaupunkia.html
