In the one above, at first I thought it was not a virus because the presenter of the video just ran a com file with the plasma effect. But he claims it also infects other files and just displays the same plasma effect in every file you run. So technically it is a virus.
Are there more of them? I haven't seen any..
It's something possible with all those tiny sized effects, to get infected by some virus and instead of having your hdisk erased or something, demo effects pop up in your screen unexpectedly. I always thought of that, what if instead of the ugly virii destroying your work, you get something like a message in a bottle with small effects and/or messages, from somewhere far far away in a distant infected pc or something. But ok, infecting pcs with even harmless stuff (if they don't fuck up unintentionally some executables) isn't something very nice.

isn't this the virus erik/resident coded?! anesthetic can verify it if so.
WINDOWS HAS BEEN TREPANATED!

The LSD virus shows a super VGA screen of a "drug trip".
I remember there was a virus in the early days of PCs that displayed a "falling leaves" animation (something like the Matrix effect, but a decade before the movie appeared).
that would be cascade iirc
and don't forget the happy new year worm, afaik the first internet worm that really reached the masses. it displayed realtime fireworks!
Hmm, yes. cascade
This must be made by broncs :)
Also, a collection of them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA4MjgNWhgs&feature=PlayList&p=D31E40C15546E62D&index=96

Hmm, nice playlist...
If you head on over the http://vx.netlux.org/ they probably have an archive of all these viruses. Optimus- thanks for the video link, hey.
I've always wondered as the the feasibility of running a your demo as an exploit to a program that runs something else. For instance, a while ago there use to be a buffer-overflow attack in the id3 tag library found on most unixes. Your demo could look like a hella-tiny mp3 and when someone loads it it then will begin to run. I guess you could call it a sploitro.
So you take a linux demo and make it even harder to run?
See, no love.
Interesting site with even more interesting articles. Lot's of nights of reading..
