Internet-petition: No indexing or blockage of web pages in germany
category: general [glöplog]
UK is already logging the streets, and creating a community like nazis did (sell your neighbors if they strangely looked at a security camera - they might be terrorists..)
"Tens of thousands of men and women throughout Britain – from security guards to store managers – have now been trained and equipped to deal with an incident and know what to watch for as people go about their daily business in crowded places such as stations, airports, shopping centres and sports grounds." - http://heritage.scotsman.com/terrorismintheuk/60000-being-trained-to-respond.5096904.jp

France, Germany, Finland... Are there other european countries turning facist?
Italy could be on the good (bad.) way... :|
I especially love how the hotline is "confidential". Cause your privacy is ever so important to the London Police. Or I guess, as long as you don't "seem odd". Or own too many mobile phones.
holy shit. Are these Images real? Where do they show them in the UK?
wat ... :<

Signed the petition. I hope she uses her speaking time wisely and there's some people changing their minds about this shit.
h4xor: They're real, and you can see them around London. I don't think the police are as openly fascist in the rest of the country, though, to be fair. Here in Bath the worst we've got are a couple of mobile CCTV units, i.e. cars with cameras that drive around town recording random stuff, and the words "CAUGHT ON CAMERA!" printed on the sides. Just to remind you that someone could always be watching. Oooh. But I think the relevant question is how the UK compares to other European countries, and it's not clear to me that they're really that much worse at the end of the day. At least the government is full of remarkably incompetent people, at least, that's sort of reassuring. ;)
they are not incompetents, they are just very good at looking incompetent ;)
btw guys your shit is scary! I'm kinda relief to live in Canada, but my plan to flee to Europe once USA takes over/merges with our country will have to be revised... maybe we should all flee to China ? or Tibet ?

A sick dutch fuck that doesn't give a shit about privacy. Or free speech.
And like the prime minister he believes in an imaginary bearded man on a cloud.
Time to read the AK 47 thread again ;)
Law-wise, we're first in Europe before being in France and Germany. (sorry for you Brits ;)
Yesterday, Europe has voted a law resolution (amendment 138) that institutes internet access as a fundamental freedom and right within Europe boundaries.
Disgruntled people would say it's a better way to control it and blah but, anyway, it will put to trash a law project here in France meant to sort of monitor and control internet connections.

(to be precise, amendment 138 say they can't mess up with freedom and fundamental rights without any judicial authority decision)
oxb ....."except in the case of"... Just another meaningless collection of weasel words from the EUcracy.
"You have unalienable rights to blahblahblahblahblahblahb mumbojumbo yackedysmackedy..... 'save when public security is threatened!.
HOLY MOTHER OF JUMPING FUCKING SHITBALLS!!! did you see what they just did there...again...as usual? what exactly does those rubber paragraph words mean?- I will tell you what It means.
You DO NOT have these rights, they are not by any stretch of imagination "rights, as they can be revoked just like that, if you come to cross some draconian terror law, and these days...who doesnt. Grandmothers, rebelious youth, heck...everybody is a potential terrorist and any action a potential terrorist action.
From: http://www.laquadrature.net/en/victory-for-eu-citizens-amendement-138-was-voted-again
"Amendement 138/46-135 states that restrictions to the fundamental rights and freedoms of Internet users can only be put in place after a decision by judicial authorities (save when public security is threatened in which case the ruling may be subsequent).... This is one more blow to Nicolas Sarkozy's 'three strikes' or 'HADOPI' law in France, and a strong sign that nobody in Europe will want to pass such a stupid legislation going against progress, citizens' rights and common sense."."
is this person retarded, or is it skillful manipulation?

this is very skillful manipulation.
they pass the law everyone wants and add their own invalidating clause in fine print.
so everyone is happy and when they really need it they reveal the fine print.
and now someone outline those fine prints but hey! it's too late! yay!

samurai: Don't worry, comparing the grossness of the random image thread to a single link posted to an utmost legal web page, it is likely that your lovely pouët will get its blockade due to the first one.
Samurai, if pouet got censored because of that, it would be the bestest thing ever. I could actually see a bunch of people switching their internet connection to a non-censored one if that happened.
This is an interesting discussion :)
I can confirm also, being based in the UK, that all the posters included in this discussion in relation to terrorism are certainly around. I haven't seen too many in Cambridge, but certainly the posters are spread around in far greater numbers in London.
I'm personally all for child-porn sites to be blocked, but I have reservations on the type of blocking system which is used for this. At the moment, the technology being used to block sites is still quite new and we do end up with sites being blocked which shouldn't have been blocked.
Most site blocking tends to occur in the workplace, where companies are so scared of being sued that they feel the need to control and see whatever employees are viewing via the web or elsewhere. For instance, at a military establishment I worked at, we could not access http://www.dhs.nu as it contained the words 'Dead' and 'Hackers' - meaning that it was some illegal hacking site through which people could bring down networks etc, a la the movie "WarGames" from 1985 or so, according to the people who implemented the system.
You are all right to feel concerned when visiting the UK about the proliferation of videocameras around city and town centres too. Even though, to be fair, if you're not doing anything wrong you haven't got too much to worry about, but my concern personally is where the footage ends up. Quite a lot of footage ends up as entertainment television, along the lines of "Road Wars" or "Street Crime" (if those programme names don't grab you, think of the USA's long running series, "Cops" - that does get shown worldwide.
The problem with all of these cameras being around is that we are all paying for them as taxpayers & we weren't even asked if we wanted them.
In truth, the cameras are used because UK police are apathetic about getting out, on foot, and patrolling the areas using human beings. They drive around in their patrol cars day after day, whereas a foot patrol consisting of human beings would do a great deal to alleviate the public's concerns of crime and particularly low-level stuff such as vandalism. When my wife and I were in NYC back in October 2007 to get married, we noticed one hell of a lot of police on the streets all over the entire city and we had no problems as a result.
The UK, I think, particularly if you look at our tabloid media, is also becoming more fascist - particularly against Muslims who are not involved with terrorism but who unfortunately are tarred with the same brush. People now do find the presence of them in the street, even if they are going about their own lawful business, scary - and more so for the women who wear the full face hijab or jilbab.
I'm probably rambling here, but I reckon it is food for thought ;)

Sigh. Why does everyone have to insert such idiotic disclaimers?
For the record, I'm personally ALL AGAINST sites to be blocked, including those that contain child-porn. Full stop.
I'm not even going to reason that argument since that would be weaseling out and trying to make it sound less bad. There, you can come with torches and pitchforks now.

This really depends on what is considered wrong. Wrong and right are very relative things. The governments have a habit of passing absurd laws and one day you may find that, say, wearing a T-Shirt which has the word 'hacker' painted on it is a crime.
This surveillance catches up really fast. When people get power over others, eventually they start to abuse it. Having the possibility of following your every move not only in the physical world but even in the virtual one is way over any reasonable law system.
216: +1
don't block child porn sites, simply shut them down, ffs. it's not like it wasn't possible. nearly all of it is sitting on webservers in western countries where they're in violation of already existing laws anyway.
