dosbox!

hahaha! endlich kann ich mal wieder 2nd reality sehen!
THE DEAD ARE WALKING THE EARTH ONCE MORE!

and i'm happy that i finally had time to check out dosbox after 1^10 people told me about it, hence making it possible to emulate a 386 in my duron 800...

Dosbox seems to be really promising. I'm very happy to be able to see Caero again (ran very nicely on my p4 2,66ghz)

Hello all. Canadacow here. I noticed the posts about some of the GUS demos not working with my code. I'm checking them out now and hopefully they'll be working by the next version. Don't forget, DosBox 0.61 does have a dynamic core which is about 5 to 10 times faster on Intel/AMD cpu's.

Yeah, DosBox rules. Slow though :)

canadacow, last november, i mailed you about the gus support, telling you what's wrong with it, but you havent answered my last mail, and even stated that i was wrong because you coded it by the gus sdk.

since then i've fixed many bugs (including an obvious interpolation thing, which f***ed up the sound quality), so if anyone's interested in a way more compatible and 100% clean sounding version, send me an email, because as it seems, the author wont listen.

canadacow: if future DosBox GUS emulation plays 303 music quite respectfully, that would be so kewl! :) thanx for making DOS legacy alive!

reptile: no relation with DosBox, but i just want to complain about your last game : it's eating away my nights! ;) visuals and fx are astounding!

Apart from the usual crawling speed, and occassional desyncs (i guess they're related), the 303 soundtrack plays fine here, in gf1 hw mix mode. It's just fun watching these old demos again, and at last i can use fasttracker2 (well... sort of. mild timing issues still exist)

Zest: thanks! (well at least, if we're talking about the same game :) )

I've been playing some of Sierra On-Line's old classics (Space Quest 3, Hero's Quest 1, etc...) and they work great with Adlib support (they are 16colour games).

I'll try adding he milesdrivers so I can use the GUS emulation for general midi support.

fasttracker 2 kinda works with dosbox, too. thats really enjoyable...

yep... the only problems i get with ft2 in dosbox are overall latency issues, occasional snapping, and most notably the fact that it sometimes fucks up the colors of the screen completely so that the screen resembles the "space pigs" color preset of ft2 :) anyone know what that's about?

it's a meant to be. everybody knows that all real trackers use space pigs (actually, i made a space pigs theme for renoise because i couldn't do without).

I've recently realized that superplek's changes were in fact accurate and plan to integrate them with the main DosBox code as soon as superplek sends me his latest code. From my understanding, those updates should fix several demos that don't run in the current 0.61 DosBox build.

Wow, I'm a real genius. I said superplek but meant reptile. Doh.

Yeah, that's strange! :)

that's a common mistake. many times i've intended to say "your eyes are like two stars in the night", but instead i said "*drool* ass titties *drool* ass ass titties titties *drool*"

Reed, I'm sorry to break it to you.. but that isn't a common mistake. It's just you, Guybrush Threepwood and the main I'm-a-pathetic-little-wimp-but-I-stil-get-the-cheerleader-in-the-end" characters in bad american college movies ;)

dunno if it's just me, but i just can't get it to work.
i'm sure i've been smart enough to mount the files, but still no go.

i'd like to use ft2 again for example, but that one seems to be a red flag for dosbox. did anyone manage to get it run?

sorry for bumping this old thread. however, does any one have an "optimal performance" configuration file for dosbox? i seem to be stuck at pressing f12 to increase speed :-)

what i'd really want is a config that enables as much speed as possible ...
put everything on AUTO ;P
Code:core=auto cycles=max

what 4mat said
but but but that's what i said! :P
Oh yes, 4mat's method should work just fine! :)
