My girlfriend and I are visiting Prague in two weeks and since I'd trust you more than any online tourist guides, I was wondering if there are any sceners from the city (or those who know the city) who would help us out with some valuable info considering less known places to visit (i.e. apart from the main sights), cheap but fine restaurants with local food, and a few nice pubs where we could taste a couple of those famous Czech brews :) Of course anything else you'd like to mention is more than welcome!

I've visited Prague a couple of times. I'm not a local, only yet another lousy tourist, but I'd like to share some of my favorite places:

• Cafe Slavia. Art Nuveau Style. Try the cacao with absinth.
  



• Blue Duck Restaurant. Quite expensive, reservation recommended. Excellent (and I mean it) food and service. Don't let you turn down by the way the restaurant looks from the outside!
  



• Gran Cafe Orient. Another old cafe. Situated in a house that's build in the cubistic architecture style (rare thing). A must see if you're into architecture. There is a nice cubistic museum in the same house as well.
  




• Cafe Ebel for a less decadent and modern cafe. Bistro style. Great cakes! The irish cofee rocks!
  

Non-Food related:

• Ungelt Jazz and Blues club is worth checking out. Nice bar, have never been disapointed by the live band. Beeing into Jazz/Blues recommended.
  



• Museum Kampa. Modern Art. Lots of demoish objects there! Little teaser:
  

If you want to chill down and relax a bit take a walk at the kampa. In general the tourist density is much lower there than in the old town.

Oh - and keep your eye open. You may find one or another cool modern art sculpture where you would never expect it. And there are some nice graffity and wall-paintings as well.



Love that city. Love the modern aspect of prague even more than the historical one.

I really loved prague too, I stayed for a week some years back. The best advice I can give is probably just to walk randomly around the old town.. there's amazing stuff on pretty much every street, and you'll catch the main tourist sites too in the process.

Beer + food in the tourist areas was pretty expensive back then (this was before the euro), but a bit outside the town it was cheap. E.g. a beer in the central square was probably €2.50-€3.00, while a pint of staropramen or similar outside was around €0.50. There was a good local place where we stayed then, with cheap beer and food for around €4.00. But I can't remember the name now.. if I remember later, I'll check my photos for the name + place. Or I guess the prague guys can suggest a hundred similar places :) (and note that the prices are probably much higher these days!)

i'd say that prices are nearly the same, maybe a bit more expensive at some places. the whole old town is a must see i agree, i recommend to see Vysehrad also... i'm not actually from prague but i can recommend many great restaurants and places that are worth vsiting...

stop by charles bridge if the weather is nice and i think you'll find a bunch of old Skiffle/Dixieland heads called 'Jazz no problem'

i think they're physically shackled to the bridge or something, because they're always there

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities around the globe and having a beer (or two) with Nula, Raist, Fips and all the other mates is always a pleasure. As the others said, Prague is full of demoscene objects everywhere! You should also visit "Troja" and the zoo there. Was really surprised how nice it was there.
