The Gathering 2009 - and strange dreams
category: general [glöplog]
Respect to Navis for visiting Norway. I'll be on the plane to Germany on friday.
well, maybe thats what happened to The Party then. I remember early 2000, top "productions" being actually quite embarassing (BITS style). Maybe they stopped it for this reason alone.

Having a closer look at the sponsors of the Gathering makes me quite sure they don't care about this small part the demoscene occupies at the Gathering at all.
..which is not uncommon for someone who has never visited the party and just looks at the homepage (which, btw, has a pretty extensive creative section, which I'm sure you didn't read :)
Navis: stop giving me credit, I don't need more germans angry at me. :)

...did you take a look at Breakpoint's sponsor?
Who's angry on you? Not me! :D :D :D
Oh, I have been at the Gathering. I was there in 1995. Enjoying the excellent job CNCD did with "Deep". Quite a long time ago. And afterwards I didn't go there again because of the long distance to travel there. Some years later I noticed I picked the only Gathering that was held in "far far away" (Can't remember the name of the city). And I admit I was really...drunk. I also admit that the party changed a lot since then.
Don't get me wrong. I admire releasing at the Gathering and help keeping the creative part alive there. I just wanted to point out what people often forget concerning the intentions of sponsors. ;)

Breakpoint are demosceners only.
The Gathering contains how much percent demosceners? ;)
When did what percentage of what audience make it okay to have sponsors and another set of variables not okay? :) I would think that it's a positive thing that TG keeps funding demoscene competitions, evnen though the majority of visitors do not participate in them (but still enjoy them). Even more so for the sponsors, which appreciate the creative vibe. Hell, the main sponsor of TG is NTNU, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, not Electronic Arts or Bawls or whatever. :)
Touchè. Monsieur Gloom. :D
But it doesn't change my view concerning sponsors. ;)

Respect to Navis for visiting Norway.
This is one of the most stupid lines I've seen ever seen here. Are we now going to swing our dicks in terms of frequent flyer miles?
I'm off to South-Africa next week, bitch!.
(and now I'll be docile for a week or so again)
niels: you really dont get it idiot. dont take everything too serious.
My attempt to insult: SUCCESS!
Oh it's a lovely country you inhabit by the way. BUT STILL.

I actually agree with you here. First of all the flight to Norway is as short as the one to Germany. Second, there is nothing to respect (or not respect) when we, or other groups, release at XYZ party. At the end of the day, all demos will find their way to scene.org and will be enjoyed by alot of people over the next few years, whether they come from TG or BP or whatever.
I personally find it quite nice, as a gesture, when a big production is presented at a dead small party (such as, say, the only small parties I've been to, the Greek ones and Sundown) where 1) there is no big screen or big audience to cheer you up and 2) no actual prizes to take home or, if you win, a nice cup.
hey, a cup I once won (which is now unfortunally broken) at remedy 98 was one of my best winnings ever, and I've been fortunate to win more than that, but the cup memory stands by itself :-) For me personally, money don't mean nothing when it comes to prizes.
All parties should have trophy cups!
I still have my "2nd place Dreamhack 2002 64k intro" cup on display. :)

My TRSAC duck is lost :(
I think I've more or less enjoyed all parties attended (quite some, but mostly <= 2005).
None in Norway, but Trondheim is simply awesome.

Ridy is right to the extent that I wasn't taking it too seriously by the way. Just, when taken out of context, it was a stupid line :) So let's not discuss this in a negative manner. Except if anyone WANTS to.. :)
(but I'm off to bed now)

niels: when were you in trondheim?
my trsac duck isn't lost, but the paint is starting to come off :( now it's more yellow than gold..
i would actually go to the gathering if breakpoint didn't exist :)

kusma (I presume): november 2007 -- friend of mine was studying there for half a year, so we decided to visit.
spent some days in town (drinking, the mandatory samfundet visit, hiking trip 1 hour outside of..).

niels: OK, I was living there at that time. (Yeah, I'm kusma)
.. so was half the norwegian demoscene, what makes you special kusma?
leia: My "special sauce". Also the fact that I'm the one asking? Besides, I don't think niels knows a lot of the other sceners in trondheim, but I could be mistaken.

Navis: we tried getting the bp team (and at mekka earlier) to play the winning demo from tg for years and years already, no go ;)
Hmm? I'm *sure* the winning demo from TG gets played every year at BP. The Monday morning PlayPsyCo demo show is practically a Breakpoint tradition by now...
...wait, that's not just another crazy recurring dream, right?
