Minimum PC requirements for 2009 PC demos?

category: general [glöplog]
Hi,
This is a question for people who will release PC demos in 2009. What is the minimum hardware you expect PC demos watchers to have?
I personally expect the following config:
- 1 Gb RAM
- Shaders 2.0
I think this is low-enough so that a maximum amount of people can enjoy demos this year, but some of you may think I'm too or not enough optimistic. I don't think most people will have multi core PCs. On the shaders topic, most recent games require 3.0 shaders, maybe most demos will too?
Opinions needed!

minimally:
- duocore at 2ghz
- 2gb of ram
- 8600GT or up

i expect them to have the specs required to run the demo. for example, for a C64 demo...the viewer should really have a c64. for a shader 3 demo, they need shader 3.

Shaders 2.0 were ok in 2006 but in 2009 a demo requiring 3.0 cards sounds ok to me (even in 2008)

NVidia 9600 GT, mobile (benchmarked with stargazer, running smoothly).

I generally go with the minimum PC of the group, cuz it sucks to work on a prod you can't watch. But beyond that I would not care about performances too much (tho compatibility is another issue), since videos are common and that demos are there to push the limits and awe-factor forward.
If you can do glow without shaders that's fine and good by me, but if you need PS4 to achieve that particular effect no-one ever thought of, go for it!

Shadermodel 3, since coding for lesser versions is pain. for me it was the instruction count limitation in the shader, but there are surely more reasons. If you want hardware limitations, then code for the c64 or do a 4k where there's a chance your pain will be rewarded :)

ONLY GOOD DEMOS ARE MADE FOR DOS/GUS. ALL OTHERS SUCK.

Just release the video capture and don't expect anything about the hardware, OK?
and a neat subnotebook in order to look cool and browse pouet at parties.

if you want to run anything im going to make this year you'll neeed: ps3.0 on a dx10-class card (but not necessarily using dx10), and a dual core machine with 2gb of ram or more.
dx10-class cards (nvidia's geforce 8 series and up, ati's 2xxx series and up) should be standard by now. those cards standardised a lot of the dx9-class featureset where the support was previously poor on nv 7 series and ati 1xxx series, and they perform a lot better thanks to more memory and shader units, faster clocks, unifed shader architectures and pre-shader z units.

a 16/10 flatscreen ?

ok not a requirement, but seriously, won't you try to make your demos look better in 16/10 ?
