The Demoscene is Beautiful! Blockparty 2009
category: general [glöplog]
Hi, everyone. Jason Scott, co-organizer of Blockparty. Just wanted to let you know that tickets are now on sale, and the new site will be making an appearance soon. For now, we just have a little scene beauty:

We met some great folks at NVscene and saw old friends, and in just a few short months we'll be back, for Blockparty #3. April 16-19th, 2009.

It's funny, I was at NVScene and met almost no other americans :P
They were over in the LAN area getting free Bawls.
The demoscene is beautiful.
Nuskool?! No thanks!
Jason: Who is the woman next to you?
Jason: do you remember how many coolers full of those things there were? it was insane!!
keops: Trust me I still have my free toy RV :D :D

is it in cleveland again?
The handsome fellow is in fact RaD Man/ACiD, and the woman is Jeri Ellsworth, creator of the C64 DTV and speaker at 2008 Blockparty.
Ferris: I am sure they had a couple tractor trailers' worth on hand as needed. They handed them out by the stack.
uhh cleveland?! or wtf?!?! (it's damn hard to plan any travel without knowing where to go...)
havoc: since, i assume, it's going to be at notacon again, yeah, cleveland ohio.
ok- would be good to have this 100% confirmed asap... my american employer wants me to fly across the pond a couple of times in the next few months for indoctrination purposes, would be nice if i can combine it with visiting a demoparty :)
thnx! let's see what i can talk the boss into now :)
yes rad man and jeri are beautiful but isn't the US demoscene about more than good looks?
The US demoscene is about good looks and green water fountains.
So, I read the demo comp rules, and I happen to have a request. Would it be possible to up the paltry 16mb uncompressed limit on demos? I'm experimenting with pregenerated+medical volume sets, and I'm already slightly above the limit. Also, I think that I may have asked earlier, but is the compo machine on Windows XP or Vista? I'm using dx10, so I need to know if I'll have to bring my desktop to the compo for viewing, as per the rules.
Of course, all this is assuming I finish it, and considering all the drama that's going on in my life at the moment, that's a possibility.
havoc, any updates? :-)

nezbie: yep... unfortunately i had some medical problems early january (repeated collapsed lung, to be precise), so my doctor has advised me not to fly in the next few months. depending on how my recovery progresses, i'm forced to postpone my trip(s) to the US until later this year. :(((
I agree with Nezbie. I don't think uncompressed limit really makes sense anyway. I see the size limits only useful to keep the package easy to redistribute. So the packed size should be of higher importance than uncompressed size. And nowadays with higher resolutions and all, 16mb of uncompressed data is kinda small.
..Or use zlib and keep it packed at all time :P

havoc: sad to hear that, collapsed lung sound ugly just by the name of it. I wish you to recover soon :)
you can't BEAUTIFUL the demoscene
jason scott -- after that introduction i couldn't help thinking about the office us :)
