Brokepoint - Breakpoint 2009 is in danger and needs YOUR support

category: general [glöplog]
This is a bad year... normally I would donate in a flash, but my wife left her job to go back to university, severly cutting our income. Spare cash is something we don't have :-(

A bad year would be if your wife left YOU to go back to university ;)

The Sponsors chickining out has one Advantage: Banners all over the Place, no more "please keep that metalvotze banner away from the intel one" political correctness
I wonder. What was the budget of the Venlo '89 Party? Hmmm...
The web makes it easier for people to get together, thus bigger parties that cost more. You can't compare '89 with now.

on the other hand, thousands of k's of pricemoney and hired bands are bullshit though.

It's always discussable why certain things are a certain price. But people have come to expect something from BP and if they want that same experience this year, they have to chip in something extra.

You don't *have* to donate, you know..

Xeron, you can donate still with Gunther: ;)

mabye i do exactly what organizers dont want now, but:

i had my first_and_only BP-Experience in 2008 only !
but i missed a lot of all the stuff...just because the real party is ALWAYS outside...even in mud/snow !

i think sceners are able to have fun enough even without several Live-Acts and bloated TimeTable...
...after all it´s about meeting people you won´t see the rest of the year, right ? and as scene has many ppl its ofcoz time-consuming ( albeit FUN ofcoz ) to have many, many chats with others...in realtime!

i just think compos are enough entertainment already...lotsa ppl miss a lot because they more like to chat than to get through the complete programme offered...as said, i think its a bit bloated...too much action can destroy the best thing!

ofcoz: i LOVED BP 08...i have no comparisons...BUT it was the best party i ever attended ;) i´ll never forget about it !

just do one thing and have an hour pause then...or maybe get some stuff stick_together, lasting 1-2 hours and then 1 hour advertising again...(stretching it all a bit i mean)
ok,i´m not into the timetable i guess..no idea coz i´ve been outside all the time ! 3 days is a lot ! <- 72 hours !

STOP suggesting people...you see where it can lead ;) the orgas aren´t planning months for nothing ;)

call me a troll but that's (almost) exactly my thoughts, c0c00n.

to all party orgas:
make good use of whatever amount of money you have for a party. IMHO, the best parties were the "small and cozy" ones (although I have fond memories of e.g. the party 3, pure megalomania :) and a great snowy weather :D our bus nearly dropped down a slope on the way there (hi walker..thanks for co-organizing that trip :) ) )

anyways, I also donated a couple of bucks to Digitale Kultur e.V.. I hope it turns out to be like "donate 100 bucks, get ~40-50 bucks back from the "Finanzamt" (only applies to german ppl, though).
(if you are "selbstständig", donations are a great way to get rid of tax payments but you'll pbly know that)
which would be much better than spending 50 bucks via PayPal or paying an invoice from Scamp (no pun intended ! keep your cool !). great you guys reacted as quickly as you did in terms of putting up the donation link at pouet and also the brokepoint/ebroke/cashembly/nflation/the scattering thing was quite cool, indeed ;)

besides, I found the amount of money donated by international sceners via PayPal quite alarming. c'mon: ~2,5k dollars? you can do better !
(no, not the amount of money per donation but the number of ppl donating is what I find "alarming")

and, again, take this with a big grain of salt: If I were you I would stay away from "big corporate sponsoring". as you can see: it stays away from you once profits are not "enourmous" but just "ok".. I was also very dissapointed to see that e.g. NVScene acted as a "release magnet" leaving only very few stuff for "real" demo parties..and NVidia not sponsoring BP, that really is a shame !

So, I wish you a great party (look, I partly sponsored the "Boozing Tent" :D) Greetings and maybe we'll meet (again), someday.

Ok? Considering the amount of sceners who keep complaining that the normal ticketprice of 55 euros is way too high, and the fact that BP has "social tickets", I'm pretty damn impressed with the willingness of the scene to support the party.

I'm going to take that with a whole truckload of salt, because you clearly have absolutely no clue on how sponsoring or the global economy works.

I'd like to see that statement backed up by facts please, because I haven't seen that at all. Btw; did you go to NVScene? If not: what makes you say it wasn't a "real" demo party?

It is a shame that the sponsors (note the plural) could not support BP the same way they have done earlier years, especially the gigantic support package that NVIDIA provided BP with last year. However; taking it for granted that once support is given, it will continue (or even increase) year on year is idiotic, especially given the current financial climate.

At "real" demoparties 90% of the visitors aren't imported from another continent?

are you trying to say this is the last year of BP ?
