Brokepoint - Breakpoint 2009 is in danger and needs YOUR support
category: general [glöplog]
Scamp: what about collaborating with Digitale Kultur e.V. for donations, or is this just a plain stupid idea (too much work, against tax law, whatever...)?! We could get "support from that state" that way :)
rare: I think that is already in progress..
gopher: Nope, it isn't.
Basically the bar manually is counting
- Expected visitor entrance fees (minus 19% sales tax)
- Ordered supporter tickets minus 19% sales tax
- *SIGNED* company sponsor contracts
(The whole bar for spendings does not include paid sales tax
either, as in the end the party will as always make 0 Euro profit,
making it tax-neutral, IOW sales tax spent will be indentical to
sales tax received from ticket sales / sponsor invoices, but it
means that if you buy a supporter ticket for 1000 Euro, it will
be only counted as 840 Euro for the bar)
So, there is quite a lot of money in the pipeline which is not counted yet, but will within the next 1-2 weeks.

rare: That's work in progress. As scene.org already accepts donations for BP, that however makes only a difference for germans who could make use of a "spendenquittung".
Very good imo, because lots of germans are coming and a lot of old scene farts have jobs and can make a use of this. Why not let the state support BP a bit?! :D
Scamp/Truck: I completely agree - people going "Oh, there's a stream? Then I won't bother coming" should be beat with a stick indeed.. however - I don't think that is a real problem. Perhaps you'll loose some of the locals, but people going from other countries are coming anyway, because the party is what matters. For me, I would _love_ to come, but I simply cannot do it. On a personal level I am more than willing to compensate for the loss of that extra entry ticket by donating, but then I want to know there will be a stream. ;)
Well gloom, if you want to know there will be a stream, you _should_ donate to get the bar to the right direction, since that's what will ensure the stream, right? ;)
rare: There is no magic "I'm a registered association, please send me cash"-button. Getting state support for cultural stuff means months of forms filling out, possibly then receiving something from the 2010 fund". I could do that INSTEAD of organizing Breakpoint 2009. :)
Feel free to register a "Förderverein" yourself though, jump through the hoops yourself, and then send us the money :)

Again, please guys, please less "clever" advice that boils down to "isn't there free money you can get?". Such a thing does not exist. If you believe otherwise, please act yourself, sit on your magic carpet and go get and bring it.
What I was talking about was donating money to DK, DK supports you, people get the "spendenquittung" from DK. I'm not sure if it would work that way, though...
I'm not talking about you/BP applying for sponsorship of cultural events from the state or whatever.

Leia: What I'm saying is that I'll be more comfortable doing that if the stream was moved in front of the prize-money ;) Though I totally understand why it is at the end. Either way; that's just my personal opinion. I'll continue helping out through Scene.org and other channels of course, stream or no stream.
gloom: darklite will run a live-stream throughout the party, so somewhat of a stream is guaranteed! :)
i second scamp concerning the live stream.
of course it would be nice for all non-attending people, but seriously BP is THE scene event of the year. be there or be square. after all a stream wont give you the same experience and feeling as beeing present at the party yourself.
and especially this year with severe financial issues it should be understandable that everything that is sponsored/donated is used to make the party as good as possible for the people actually attending. and though i dont have any figures about it i would still think that most people who bought a supporter ticked or donated at scene.org did this because they actually want to attend and want to have the best party experience possible under these conditions.

I totally agree with the stream thing. As long as the financial situation is good losing a few visitors due to them watching the stream at home doesn't matter as much as it does right now.
scamp and crew have my support to the fullest extent.
about seminars?
i always thought it's weird to spend money on people who dont pay entrance
by "pay entrance" i mean "and dont come to the party either"
Any possibility to charge for the live stream? mayyybeeee?
everybody bring a piece of decorative junk and take 10 minutes out of your awkward friday afternoon standing-around time to pin, place, tape or balance it somewhere (apart from last minute coders)
Ah - now it really counts to bring a banner - makes me remember the 4-5 meters high Anna Nicole Smith / H & M poster, someone brought to The Gathering '94. Or Depth's classroom-sized UDSALG-sign at South Sealand '96 for that matter. Get painting guys - or climb some flagpoles!
hahahahahahaha!!

I think it's weird to think of a stream as "something those who are too cheapass to come to the party get for free" instead of "an amazing party feature that thousands of people will enjoy and which brings enormous PR to the event", but hey..
