Good Bye Nectarine

category: general [glöplog]
Wow all those offers on the Nectarine page. "Sponsor Fruit Trees" sure beats protracker mods anytime!!!

Well, scenemusic.eu isn't any longer waiting for the old Nectarine DB. So all songs, votes and comments will stay permanent from now on:

"DISCLAIMER: We aren't waiting for anything anymore. You can safely add your favs/comments/votes to the DB. Uploader still to come - sooner or later."

http://www.scenemusic.eu/demovibes/

So it is official: The old Nectarine is gone, there will be no comeback for the old database.

TMB: Not the fact that there is a new platform is sad. The fact that one of the most comprehensive databases in the demoscene is lost now. I don't want to know how long it will take to add download links and pouet links for every single tune again, but it will take very long, I bet. And that's one of the main reasons why I'm probably not going to use demovibes.
Saga: What happened was really bad but the saddest thing was that Yes didn't do backups :( it's all been discussed before and I wish all the best to demovibes! (and don't ya forget to back sh.t up!)

in my mind, demovibes is associated with willbe's greatness, not with nectarine
i'm surprised you decided to use "demovibes" for this new radio, it is kind of willbe's brand

ha d'accord !!!

esion > just to be clear, I didn't answer to your question but expressed my own opinion
demoscene "brands" are kind of silly
added on the 2009-01-27 10:13:30 by El Topo El Topo
well willbe didn't claim anything as far as I know

a demogroup name is kinda a brand, do you still find it silly?
does it sound smart to chose the same group name as an existing famous group?
No, that would be extremely lame. My point being that if you release "bestest chipdisk 2009" I should be able to release "bestest chipdisk 2009" too without being accused of infringing on your "brand".

Since this is the demovibes radio some could argue that this is a different brand, since it has "radio" in it.

BTW: I wouldn't mind calling it "Nectarine" again instead of "Demovibes".

i was surprised as well since i think 100 % of willbe when i hear the word demovibes. why did you change btw? didn't yes approve?

I, too, think of willbe when I head "demovibes". Poor choice of name!

Just curious: For what exactly was the money that was donated to restore the data used for? Were the data restored? Are they used by this new platform?

the data was restored as far as I know, with that money, but it has not been given to Arab yet. I also don't know if any money is left, but that's Yes' business, so I can't answer that. Something tragic happened to someone very close to Yes, and I haven't heard from Yes since. That was shortly after the database files (mp3s etc) was restored. At least that's what Yes told me. In the meantime, Arab's new platform decided not to wait any longer, which I can understand, and starts building an own database now. In the meantime, I'll keep trying to reach Yes. Here's hoping that we'll reach him sooner or later.

At least he said that he'd attend Breakpoint last year. But Breakpoint is still soooo far. :( :P
Demovibes sound too much like Willbe to me too.

But anyway. Most important thing is that the database will be recoved. From what I read on Yes' info page the MP3 disk is 100% ok, but the database disk caused some problems. No notes though if they were able to recover it... It will take month/years to accumulate all this information again. Besides all my favorites are in there ;P
Hope they have managed to recover it.
Raven: He wrote all about the recovery costs and everything here

Also my best wishes to Yes for whatever happened. Hope it'll be alright.

I just read in the forum of Demovibes Radio, that Yes was contacted and he is ready to give the Nectarine Database. It seems in the end things are moving again.

I hope.
