Wizball played live in a church, mindblowing

category: general [glöplog]
I'm sure this has been posted here before, but here it goes again for anyone who missed it.

The Wizball theme is among my favourite songs ever and Reyn Ouwehand does it amazing justice.

Watch this video.

i guess this is a great opportunity for me to vent an annoyance that has been growing inside me over the last many years:

demoscene != old computers

of course, pouet != scene so this topic may still be in place, but i really feel that the scene is rapidly growing into a bunch of old nostalgic farts who are oh so proud they remember what comic bakery looked like.

tell you what, i never played comic bakery. i never touched a c64. i don't care about the commodore, or the atari, or whatever computer you watched lowres porn on when you were thirteen. i care about *demos*, running on *any* computer. the relevance of reyn ouwehand in a church is completely lost to me.

Wow, you are grumpy! :D
Maybe you're more interesed in Reyn Ouwehand playing at Breakpoint then? :P

Commodore64 sux.
saga musix, slightly, but i don't need your youtube link as i was there myself. note that he played quite some demoscene tunes as well, on top of his standard repertoire.

anyhow, is any band who plays at a demoparty suddenly scene-related? is that it? that makes my spanish student music club demoscene related. it makes plek's italo disco record collection demoscene related.

and rob, yes, i am a bit grumpy. only a couple of years ago, people would explain the demoscene to people with terms like "multimedia art" or "realtime audiovisual yadayada". the interest from the scene in other worlds that are described using similar terms is minimal, yet we stand in line to squirt over yet another oldskool computer game tribute. if i was an outsider and wanted to find out what the scene was about by talking to people, i'd easily come to the conclusion that "these guys recreate the passion of old computer games even in 2009!!!uno".

i'm starting to understand trace's bitterness here.

don't get me wrong, i've nothing against demos on oldschool platforms - quite the contrary. i've something against blind reverence of the oldschool platforms themselves and calling it demoscene.

I have no clue what you are talking about... I don't like the oldschool stuff so much myself. But some people do. You don't have to open this topic. You don't have to go to youtube to check the video out. People enjoy the demoscene in different ways.

So many sceners turning sour lately. What the fuck is up.
Sorry I bothered posting.

rob, in my case maybe it's the flu.

Flu sucks, I agree :)
skrebbel, I wonder what made you think that this topic is about demoscene = old computers ? can you open a new one for you problems?

have you posted in the obama topic that scene != politics yet ? hurry!

demoscene == social fups
Meh, this is not johnl's fault. He just wanted to post a link that he thought was awesome. I think it fits on the bbs, since it's about a person that has been active in the scene (somewhat) and was important in the time when c64 still mattered. So John, don't be offended about skreb's rant, it's just a flu, you did nothing wrong and Reyn is pretty awesome.

Skrebbel does have a point about the scene being overly nostalgic about anything 80s. Then again, that is what nostalgia is all about and 'we' are getting older. :)

oswald, thanks for not reading further than the second line of my first post. okkie, that's true and johnl, i'm sorry for derailing your thread so early; even if i think the thread is not particularly important, hardly any pouet thread is (which is why i included the part about pouet != scene).

okkie don't blame the flu entirely though - i may have mistimed and misplaced my words, but otherwise i still stand by them. i'm a 90's kid, but i don't go all about bugging the even older farts about how awesome Dune II was either, do i.

Disclaimer

The oldskool pouët BBS is not the demoscene, please visit a demoparty. This is merely a forum for sceners, with obviously too much free time, to release their frustrations and request salted communitary feedback, as opposed to polluting the prod comments section.

New users: please take your vaccines before entering, don't expect instant praise, and try not to feel easily insulted.
Old users: please don't feed the trolls. Reoccuring annoying behavior will result in a heavily subjective ban. Just try not to piss off 90% of our active users with childish and/or idiotic behaviour and you should be safe.

You have been warned.

No, but a scener playin' at a demoparty might be kinda scene related. And the same scener playing in a church or wherever he's rocking his boat might be slightly scene related too. Well, at least for me, that is. Then again, I'm just an old nostalgic fart who remembers how Comic Bakery looked like...

You do have a tendency to promote 90s eurodance though, which is kind of the same thing :)

I absolutely get your point, but trust me, when you get older you *will* start proclaiming that 486 graphics are awesome to younger kids.

It's in 'oldskool' terms interesting to see that the Amiga people have everybody else outperformed in their 'the past was AWESOME' zealotry. I guess the most unsuccessful platform spawns the most rabid fans. ;)
