Nah, now seriously, when I posted that (now wide) entry, I was on a webkit powered browser. On the preview all the images were one on top of each other. I'm now checking it with a gecko one and I can se the problem. Sorry about that... I wish I could edit my posts, like in php forum systems from '99 :P

quick hack attempt at doing no.3 over breakfast:


It ended up pretty different looking, but with some tweaking a similar effect is possible. The distortion + texture is animated in a similar way, but i'm blending the textures used on the sphere with live video from a webcam (you can make out my eye on there). Looks better moving..
