Synths you must own before you die!

I have a CS1x, but I wouldn't say it's a "must-own" synth. Even if it was a nice thing in the 90s maybe.
Eh... The CS1x was plastic rubbish. Complete crap with horrible sounds, terrible controllers and just an all-round piece of garbage. :)
wb: We (me and Flipside) have an OSCar in our studio ;)
Available as VST: http://www.polyvalens.com/vl1/
A friend (rip) of mine used to have one.

At least you can use the DSPs to make it sounding a bit better. :P (I least _I_ made some nicer patches with distortion and stuff. :D)
Saga Musix: Just because a car has faulty breaks which makes it easier to dump off a cliff, it doesn't make it a good car. ;)
I'm in love with this thingie.
my next synth to buy
Gloom: Well sure, but a faulty car is still better than no car at all :P (And I can't afford a ca...err, synth).
roland alpha juno2 -- my first "real" synth :) still have it, still love it. (mks-50 is the same thing in a rack case)
just software, please. All those hardware synths annoy me due to their lack of flexibility
numtek: you're playing with fire... careful now. ;)
pah!

Bow down and pray before the space-machine:
why pray *before* when you can pray *within* =) the machine (well, almost):
here's another weird but cool digital synth (Yamaha FS1R):
and check out aliens project (great gear, lotsa sound samples)

On the subject of Korg M1 - both the choir pad preset "Universe" and the piano (think: every damn italo tune, and most likely a lot of early happy hardcore/rave) are classic sounds.
I'd happily have one to sample stuff from :)

you could try korg legacy collection (wavestation + m1 re-visited, should sound authentic since both synths were digital)
but what is actually cutting edge now? people always talk about the old stuff. is it just softsynths?
loaderror: Access Virus-family, TI and Polar.
Oh - if you want to go modular nothing beats the Buchla 200e.. At least for the price :-)
