Tough one. I'd say the big three genres that inspired others were folk, French electro and overproduced Timbaland hiphop. Hard to name one album.

i stopped listening to anything pop-related in 1998 ( i dont even have the music-tv-stations programmed in my TV...i just dont need em...bad music ( for MY ears ) all of the time...nah! )

i´m only listening to 60s-80s-rock for a decade now...with some few new stuff like Turbonegro...but most new rock isn´t that cool. so no idea for the 00s !
the new ACDC and Metallica-album rock tho...

also: the decade still lasts for some longer...thread opened a bit early ! ( ppl will spam it with stuff from 2009 soon i guess )

Their all discography is best of the decade. Do you miss the unique sound of Pink Floyd, but are tired of boring prog rock projects? Quoting my friend: "After listenig the Riverside albums, I want to smoke a cigarrette, because I'm so tired, like after a good sex".
