Album of the Decade ?
category: general [glöplog]
mmm i dunno. my girlfriend's really really into it, and i like listening along with her, but i think there's a vast emptiness about last.fm and that mindset
you know... if you buy a really great record from any decade, people know the songs and people know the stories. almost all of the time, even if it sounds like commercial drivel, beneath the surface are a lot of great musical and production talents. if you download a million torrents a day and listen to last.fm all the time, often it feels like you're exposing yourself to a bunch of audio experiments that you can't even remember the next day - i don't see what connection there is with the music
best times i remember listening to new music was with wefunk radio, when i'd track down the best cuts i'd heard that day and then play those CDs for a whole week, everywhere i went
this is just me talking, anyway... got friends who are getting to be pro players in rnb and pop and so i see the talent and the dedication and the fun that's there. sometimes i want something fun, not something alienating and weird

okkie & rob : so true about the return of folk singers/songwriters :)
but what would be the most noticeable band/singer then ?
personally i've flashed at Juana Molina, her last album is so electrolicious :D

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
ditto!
also, the ost for ICO (the game) :)
and to mix it up a bit more...
- Untrue by Burial
- Original Pirate Material by The Streets
even if you dont like radiohead. it IS a very weird avantgardish album that really broke with their settled style.
we could wait for 2020 when Rockstar will make a GTA7 set in Tokyo 2000ish and will feature ones of the most influential tracks of the 2000s...
radiantx: that's a fantastic album indeed :)
Dooom! \o/
personally i hate all those kanye wests, timb(a/er)lands that are creeping through the charts... and everytime i meet a clone of them on the street i wish i had stayed at home.
i miss the passion in their songs and most of the time they are just turning shit into money. therefore i prefer the "underground" stuff like immortal technique or jedi mind tricks (hip-hop wise) or other music genres that are hardly in the charts like metal, hardcore or industrial
some props to radiohead to relase an album in a new way (even though i don't like their music that much)

src: don't forget Paris and Non Phixion !
as for K.West, Timboland and the likes...it's Pop music - so it's not surprising their stuff's formulaic. There's not much pop I like, for that reason.

For some hard to get into, but rewarding. Maybe the kid A of the headbanging world. ;)

have been listening to Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious, quite outstanding for the hybridization O_o
And this ends once again in people trying to out-obscure each other with their music :D
00s... coldplay and radiohead is all I can think of (from big names) dont care for the either myself
then there is a pile of "rnb" and loads of "club music" which you wont recall the next week, left alone next decade. disposable recycled music, even if its good for now it wont last, it wont be remembered

There was huge clutter of 80s disposable pop and still some of those songs managed to stick 'love is a battlefiiiiield~ tarzanboy oh-eh-oh, safety dance!' so you'd be surprised what songs will stick :)
