havoc: basically one of the points is to prove that the MOD -> SID conversion is in fact an un-automatable process, and does require both artistic and technical additions to the song, and hence the resulting SID file can not be reproduced by two people independently.
so it's about the SID file after all
It is and it isn't. Again: read the thread. There are two cases, not one.
i read the thread.. one case got settled months ago, the other one is in court right now. it's about the SID file.
It's all about the Pentiums!

Someone should update http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Timbaland_plagiarism_controversy btw.

someone removed the link to this a while ago from the main timbaland article btw. i added it again. :]
what? has the discussion in court returned to if its a sample or not? but timbaland has already said in an interview that itsa sample when talking about how he didnt know it wasnt public domain or that he couldnt find the author of it or didnt have time.
You too Garg :)

* admission of guilt: if you make a statement, verbal or otherwise, as an admission of guilt of the matter at hand, that statement would not be regarded as hearsay. In other words, self-incriminating statements (confessions) are not hearsay.
the problem is that it cannot be regarded as guilt if it's not an illegal act - which is why it's currently being taken to court
(just to interleave a bit the legal things... :)
how can he conduct with no ears?
wasnt a problem for Beethoven, if you think about it. well ok, he did have ears, just not functioning ones.
However, he learned about music before he got deaf... Besides, that rodent most likely got ears, you just can't see them.
I recently heard a trance song on the radio which was a total rip of Geir Tjelta's "infinity" sid tune. Had a male vocal and a saxophone. Anyone know which the artist/title of the trance tune? Maybe it's Geir himself :>
SID --> http://hafnium.prg.dtu.dk/HVSC/C64Music/MUSICIANS/M/MozIcArt/Tjelta_Geir/Infinity.sid
Trance rip --> ?

Trance rip --> ?
Infinity was made by Guru Josh and Geirs version is a remake.
ah sweet, cheers
There are couple other SID remakes of that tune too btw :) ..and probably on Amiga too
i dunno how well this holds up, someone just posted this link on wikipedia:

Like many other commercial musicians, Frankmusic didn't ask for permission to use commodore 64 music done by someone else.
Check this video:

At 2:20 and old SID tune of mine called "Castle Camelot" is used - played at slightly higher speed than original though. I composed the tune in 1993 for the fun of it. The music routine is my own and I could probably dig up the assembler source code for it.
The music has also been available for many years in the High Voltage Sid Collection, which can be downloaded here: http://www.hvsc.c64.org/
My directory in HVSC is /Musicians/j/jeff (Jeff is my nickname, which I use for c64 productions.
If you can't bother downloading the entire HVSC, you can download the tune from this direct link:
www.6581.dk/Castle_Camelot.sid
HVSC contains music files in .sid format, which can be played with various commodore 64 emulators, such as sidplay (just google sidplay).
It's a pity that people don't ask for permission, it's not THAT hard to dig up email adresses. So I didn't post this to whine, but just to inform. This matter is becoming a trend it seems - Commercial musicians with their "fancy" sid-stations simply grab tunes done by other people and use them... shame on them! :-)
In case Frankmusic checks this and wants to use more of my sid tunes, I can be reached at jeff@[nospam]6581.dk (remove [nospam] ) I am still active doing commodore 64 music, probably at a much higher level though. :-)
Thanks for reading.
