I second that. Why the fuck would I want to use a crippled P.O.S. browser like IE? It only encourages people to make crippled websites :)

Alternatively, why not use a program like AvantBrowser (http://www.avantbrowser.com) which uses IE as the underlying browser but enhances (or, to be more precise, diminishes) its functionality? Simply turn off ActiveX and/or Flash via one button.....

Because even though you've souped it up to do what other browser can do for ages now, you're still using IE's outmoded rendering engine. *That* you cannot fix :)

Active X is not the big security hole in IE, but its Active Scripting, wich if you turn off you also turn off javascripts and you can no longer browse any page kindof :)

if the crippled one is IE how come all web pages look good on it? I mean, the issue was the page screws up in mozilla and opera... well... most likely it IS because the html in it isn't standard, but saying that and saying IE is a crippled browser ain't the same ballpart. All you guys say about security is true, but that doesn't mean you are safe using Mozilla OR Opera. Opera (not sure about mozilla) is pretty much as open to virii and spywayre as IE.

Why ill-conveived sites look good in IE -> chicken / egg.

There are a lot of things that are functionally wrong with IE, but most are actually fixed once you know the proper hacks for it. I consider IE crippled because it does a shit job at following standards. The fact that you do not understand the concept of html standards compliance is understandable, but still retarded.

Compare the the laughable css box-model and png support to what others did since 1997, make a checklist and buy a vowel, if not a clue. IE sucks. Not just at security. And that's where I tried to make my point -the site lucks out in compliant browsers at display, not the scanning of my midget porn directories.

Shifter: the problem with the site doesnt lie with IE or Mozilla. It`ll probably be your resolution. What do you have? It`s optimized for 1024x768.

Hey Darkus, I think there is a difference between "optimized for 1024x768" and "looks completely monged in anything other than 1024*768". On my comp the site looks fine (and really nice, infact) in 1024*768 maximized, but when I make the window smaller, the text becomes mis-aligned from the rest of the page.

Darkus, if you had used HTML as it should be used, you wouldnt have the problems.. Some hints:

* Use nonabsolute sizes or, if you do, make the absolute size on a table, wich you later on use nonabsolute sizes in, (meaning: text divs etc WONT run out of the rectangle).

* Optimized for 1024x768, now thats a joke, i think the rect you use is something like 640x480 or so.. Do you really have a clue what you are doing?

* Give up on Word/Frontpage/Whatever, if you dont learn how to use it, you will just continue to make badformed html pages.


About the security holes, iam not sure, but i dont think Opera uses Microsofts VBScript engine, or does it? Atleast it doesnt really make any sense, i know atleast Mozilla doesnt.

Also, Mozilla has some builtin protection for crippled imagefiles, as it checks that the known image extensions really are what they claim to be, but however, thats not really a standard thing to do, but they do it and it works. Wich is NICE.

And also the fact that Mozilla thinks of itself as a very tight program not as a system program makes it alot more secure than IE.

arneweisse: i bow to your superior knowledge and ego, and moreover just shut the fuck up. Use your loaf and re-read your comments. Now I suggest if you can`t give good advice, don`t give any at all.

darkus, as much as it hurts to second stefan: Judging from the Mozilla output here (1600x1200, and resized the window around) I can only say:

This is shitty HTML.

As he said: The texts uses a fixed position, but the tables use relative sizes and so everything just falls apart as soon it's not the exact right resolution.

And please, "optimized for" means "I'm too dumb to support anything else". This is and has always been one of the oldest truths about websites.

Although my html is shitty, I`m too dumb and clueless.. the problems are being corrected. Scrapped the layers (which I didn`t realize were fixed) and replaced them with tables...

Anyway though, thanks to everyone for pointing out the problems.

darkus: i suggest you dont release/announce anything on a board if you dont want feedback, and when you come to tell a lie, please dont think we just swallow it and switch browsers. Keep the site on your localdisc and use file:// to access it, or be more polite to people who gives important feedback (as myself ALWAYS does).

i kinda second kb on this one. quite crap code. ohwell, some of us don't have all day to write flawless html and such, so i don't blame you.

Netscape once bet the shit out of IE. Then Netscape has gone down, and M$ thought they won. But here comes Mozilla Firebird, and it's another flawless victory. End of story, so far at least.

I refuse to design for Crapzilla just because some lame coders think their browser is more 1337. Crapzilla is garbage. Open source browsers are a bad idea.

Patrick: Troll, but I'll bite... what so wrong about Mozilla? Oh, and you're not supposed to design with just one browser (or brwoser family) in mind. Fruitcake.
