memorable but unknown NES games
category: general [glöplog]
I was very influenced by the grandness of "The Magic of Scheherazade". Very underrated game. Also, "Rollergames", classic beat 'em up, a most underrated game too - with great music, settings and wonderful gameplay. Both games were pretty unknown and generally not as talked about as, say, Legend of Zelda, though once I started playing Zelda after "The Magic of Scheherazade" I couldn't - the game looked so simple and inferior (although it is not really inferior of course, but not superior either)
And also "Codename:Viper". That was a game I really loved, though it is very difficult.

offtopic.
I remember Jungle Warriors 3 and Parapete's adventure in mao mao island. But those where in gameking 2 console not in NES :P
Which games count as "unknown" is a bit difficult to figure out but here's two NES games I've enjoyed as an adult even though I had never heard of them back when I was a kid.
Kabuki Quantum Fighter
The game has a cool "data-scifi" plot but what's really special about it is the fantastic gameplay.
Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland
Similar to Disney's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom but much more fun to play. Being a relatively late NES game (1993) also features quite advanced graphics for the system.

Well, let's say that Mario and Zelda are known games. All cartoon games are too, like Turtles and Duck Tales. Blaster Master is a known classic.

Kabuki Quantum Fighter - gotta try this one

How can something be memorable if you don't know it?
hehe. let's say, unknown to most people. not popular. not a classic.
Mr. Gimmick.
Best NES game ever!

Warning: It's almost impossibly hard.

Vice Project of Doom. (should be a classic)
Mig 29 Soviet Fighter (spamming on lots of consoles, but hardly know (?) ON the NES)

Since I already mentioned a cartoon game I might as well mention a Mario game too. ;)
Mario Adventure
This one is a hobbyist-made hack of SMB3. Instead of replacing character sprites with nude pictures or something equally retarded (like most game hacks) this one is actually a completely new Mario game with new levels. Perfect difficulty level for an old Mario fan. Fantastic.

Mr. Gimmick was indeed a very good NES game. Robo Warrior is another of my favorites.
I am sorry, the mao mao adventure was only a joke. The other one was a random title too. If it doesn't exist in mobygames or on the internet then it must be random.
clu clu land was cool
optimus: that was a cruel joke, I hope you realise how upset parapete is now. He's threatening on irc to the whole thread!
Dynowarz is a game which was not popular for good reasons, but I still like the levels where you have to hop on lifts though it was very difficult. And I loved the ending music.
Wrath of the Black Manta. Because ninjas can fly with only blankets.
Dragon Ball: Dragon Tricks
I used to spend hours with my Famiclone when I was a kid and now from time to time I run the emulator to revive some nice oldies.
For example, "Soccer" was a rather simple game, but it implemented OFF-SIDE!! which was cool for that time. In sports I also used to play "10-Yard Fight", not a very good game overall but fun to play for a while. "Slalom" was pretty nice too, I loved when the guy was like over 9000 km/h :D
About racing, I can remember "Route 66", "Excitebike" (OK, this is quite famous), "Zippy Race", "Mach Rider"... Shmups like "Star Force", "Exerion", arcades like "Binary Land", "Ikki" (I still have big LOL with this one), "Gyrodine", "Joust", "Millipede" (my mum loves these two), blahblah...
Man, I love this system.
