IQ and shit.

trace, aww, that's bullshit. TRUE difference is having the ability to be worse in everything than someone else!

That's how things are, things dont spread 'evenly' or have 'same total outcomes'. It's much more "random" than that, silly.

What trace said is generally true, but there are people at the extremes too.. people who have low intelligence in pretty much every area, and others who are really talented in a load of areas.

Before I read the replies, my answer to Optimus' first posting:
I don't think it's possible to prove that one "race" is more intelligent than another. Simply because the members of a "race" aren't equally intelligent. You can only compare the average IQs of "races".

But there is no such thing as a "race", scientifically speaking. You probably mean "ethnicity".

Just a few months ago there was some big fancy report about many (if not even majority) of gene researches coming to conclusion that humans CAN be divided to six races!

Divide them. Existance of different races, levels of intelligence, different kind of brain structures (some seeming more stupid and some smarter) RULEZ..

Especially when one can make racist jokes about them <3

Racist jokes are just so fucking hilarious.

Shadow:

Well, I'll try to explain my point of view about this shit.

Quote of your post:

it is probably a safe bet that the first person will be better suited for some tasks

The relevant word is "probably". If IQ tests were a valid indicator of intelligence, probably this discussion will ends very fast.

If you do a few IQ tests, you will find that they can score very different results with the same man! And you will find too that you can improve your ability to solve IQ tests, just as you could improve your chess or sudoku games.

Many defenders of the IQ tests claims that the intelligence of a person is a constant, not a variable. I, on the contrary, believe that every person can improve his mental faculties if he/she works hard.

You should learn a little bit about the history of IQ tests and you will found that the origins of the whole thing is full of cultural and racial bigotry.

In the begining of XX century, Alfred Binet, a psychologist, was commissioned by the French goverment for find methods that would differentiate between children who were intellectually normal and those who were inferior.

Binet wrote that "the scale, properly speaking, does not permit the measure of intelligence, because intellectual qualities are not superposable, and therefore cannot be measured as linear surfaces are measured." but, in despite of the opinion of the creator of IQ tests, soon a "IQ tests industry" begun.

In the 1920s, IQ tests were used in some USA states for promote the legitimization of forced sterilization of allegedly "defective" individuals.

The modern industry are almost the same thing. Many of the founding fathers of the modern tests (for example Carl Brigham and Lewis Terman who are developers of the "Scholastic Aptitude Test" that is used in USA) advocated eugenics and justified racial discrimination.

Etcetera, etcetera. (Yes, I know... this post is too large and almost could be published on Hugi... Arrrg! Enough!)

okkie, no, you just ought to learn that differencies do exist, unlike you pseudohumanist scumfucks would like to believe! And rich of the world and EVIL is in existance of disequality, differencies and all other groovy things (like in the The Clash song, "Groovy tiiimeeees..")!

"Lucifer on jumalamme, ei Jeesus! Jeesus oli humanisti!" -> "Lucifer is our god, not Jesus! Jesus was a humanist!"

What ham wrote. IQ as a metric was not developed to measure absolute or relative intelligence, but as a statistical variable by which to conveniently divide test groups by providing some kind of rough estimate of selected cognitive abilities. It tells very little about an individual, but over a larger population it can provide some kinds of insights.

radiantx: Intelligence tests were originally developed by Binet and Simon to predict children's success at school. It was a tool to detect children with learning problems even before they would enter school.

adok, you missed Ham's post or .... or you are trying to say you would like some children to be excluded from school?
added on the 2008-11-10 19:41:59 by iq iq
iq, MMMH, WELL, here the attempt STILL seems to be to determine all possible learning difficulties child might have.

...Why? So that they could be given extra teaching.

WRONG, I say, horribly wrong!

No one is entitled to judge one's intelligence based on a mere test! NEVER.
