Gothic horror, yes. But not Lovecraftian.
nextempire demos and necronomicon have much in common - both make you go nuts and you are unable describe what you have just seen.
Lovecraft was always very much compared to the "H.R. Giger" of literature, so, I guess this is in place:

I coded a demo in 1991 (http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=2892), which was motivated by a friend fond of H.P.Lovecraft. It is on Amiga and as far as I remember, it includes extract of a book from Lovecraft. More screenshots there http://asle.free.fr/groups/Iris/iris-lovecraft.html.

...but be sure to have enough strorage space on your compiutahs since this prod is so god damn big!

a few of our demos are somewhat inspired by lovecraftian horror (amongst other things), but don't overtly reference them. The ballet dancer is probably the most explicit one :-)
yeah mfx horror demos are pretty much the only one that come close to displaying the unspeakable :)
Lovecraft was also a rational materialist and a racist that should help to include more demos and intros.
uncle-x: Yes, I have noticed that. The ballet dancer is one of the most disturbingly beutiful demos I have seen. Make a part 2 for Ye Olde Ones sake! :D
hitchhikr: Wasn't everybody but jazz musicians in the USA racists at that time?

In case you're to lazy to find it yourself :)

Maybe not inspired, but it reminds me of Lovecraft somehow:

A real Lovecraftian demo would make you die by its horrorness... but I reckon mfx demos are pretty close to the deal.
@hitchhikr: different era, different background, you just can't say he was racist and don't consider that. In the end, Lovecraft nearly hated everybody... Except cats... cats are nice. Ho and he was more of a "xenophobic" than a "racist".
