oneliner - Wade: "ps and his minions take my votes personally I guess because I generally reserve my thumbs for hard work and talent."

i can only speak for myself but i guess i wouldnt take it personaly if you didnt personally insult me with your "opinions" of lack of talent. especially considering you haven't been contributing to any production in years.

and im not saying you're not entitled to your opinion as a watcher. by all means, we all have different tastes. but there is a certain lack of respect implied when you affirm there is no originality or work involved to create such prods. and while i didnt take particular offense to your comment to 080808 since it was indeed made in a week just for the sake of trying stuff out, i do resent accusations of complete lack of skills and originality.

the amazing thing is, when people do stuff with actual technical skill such as video tracking / reality augmentation or abuse shaders capacity for experimental projects you still accuse them of lack of talent and originality.

i can only assume you're frustrated from the attention given to the wave of abstract emotional experimental stuff out of what you badmouthed kosmoplovci's prods, for example. well, if you think these things are not real demos, i think what all of us active on the wade bashing day ask you is this: why dont you show us how it's done properly then?

is it time for another "scene is dead" article already? shouldnt you do a comeback demo first?!

does it make you angry because a little tiny piece of you inside thinks he might be right? :)

seriously, i like wade's comments. at least when he thumbs down he does so with something suitably biting (but reasoned). and when he thumbs up he does so with such great enthusiasm.

i also would like to know what's so disturbingly offensive about exploring visual bugs in the first place. some of the folks in this joint mention to it like a deadly sin or dishonorable shortcut only taken by the weak of mind.

i find it inspiring to play with. to me its alot more interesting / challenging / fun to spend my time turning eye/ear cancer caused by a bug into something that can be mesmerizing under the right conditions than to start from an empty canvas and add layers of clichès. and yes, it might require less technical prowess to get some interesting results, but wtf, where was it written demos should be only about tech skills?!

I think this is the root of the problem. Some people see it as an unwritten rule while others don't.

And it is obvious that Wade doesn't understand abstract art and he dislikes minimal or noise demos. Lack of imagination i guess.

He's also in the "i was expecting more" club:

Quote:
I'm a huge fan of ASD and expected them to take Nvscene by storm, but I don't feel demos like this show what they're capable of.

Ok, seeing that this thread has been started, let's clear some stuff up...

I admit, I do like to play the scene villain sometimes and I try to motivate people by firing them up. But at the same time I always try to encourage hard work and new talents by giving praise or constructive feedback. Like Smash said, when I praise a production I really mean it.

But you are being very political. Not only are you posting a link with all my negative votes and disregarding all my POSITIVE VOTES, but you are also misquoting me a lot. I don't go round accusing random sceners of lack of originality and talent; I just direct comments like that to those who accuse me of the same thing.

What I've noticed is that guys who work really hard on their productions accept that their work might not be perfect. They can take cricitism and they get a lot of it. Whereas the minimalist arty types seem to have this attitude that everything they do is perfect and any criticism is the result of ignorance or an inferior mind.

You know, sometimes people like to see big mainstream effects, awesome graphics and epic sequences...or even hot naked women and dragons. I'm a redblooded male and some things don't need a meaning, they are just cool! That does not make us shallow or stupid, and yet that is all to often implied.

I have certainly had my share of criticism. For years I was accused of scanning and overpainting, so I produce tutorials and timelapse videos to prove different. Then everyone gets on my case for using references - even when I use real life models, my own photos or have permission to use the sources. Most of it isn't even constructive criticism, it's just smug comments and accusations of being a fraud and having no talent (sound familiar).

Still, in a strange way I find it motivating. It makes me want to better myself and keep aiming for more creativity in my work.

I would hope that nobody gets seriously upset over my comments. Afterall, it really is just one man's opinion and I see things very differently to the next person.

For the record, I have no personal grudges against anyone in the scene and would gladly shake your hand and have a drink with you if we met. To me, Pouet is all about creative perspectives and differences of opinion and is certainly nothing I would take personally...not even all the Wade bashing. :)

Btw, you'll get to see my name on a production very soon, but please trash me separately from the other team members because their work is really amazing!

Wade: don't get me wrong but i guess this : "ps and his minions take my votes personally I guess because I generally reserve my thumbs for hard work and talent." is somewhat insulting. i am quite sure nosfe is a really talented noise artist and he worked hard for the demo, telling this from a very biased point of view (i.e. yours, mine, his, her, anyone's) deports it out of the "constructive criticism" band and makes it bashing someone else just because you don't or more precisely you can't appreciate their work. so maybe smoothening your "constructive criticism" a bit might solve the problem?

Yup, that quote resonated with me too.
It doesn't resonate with me. I don't get it that people keep on looking at noise demos and keep on bashing them when they already know they don't like such products. Stick with what you like, or try to be a bit more open minded. There is nothing wrong with only liking the more conventional demos. I just don't get why people like Wade still keep watching and bashing noise demos when they so clearly hate them.

on the one hand Wade doesn't seem/want to see the work in the demos he thumbs down, on the other hand ps you really should now be used to the fact that a majority don't like noisy prods...

this thread is quite pointless as we all know that a pouet thumb is to be taken as a totally subjective and personal appreciation, not as a trustworthy objective judgement of the technical aspects and/or design ideas.
