somebody who has some sort of vga->video converter could record some old demos.. i'm also interested in getting all the older orange demos as .avi or .mpg.. they dont work with windows anymore..

it used to be so easy when with amiga
just insert the disk and everything worked ok

You could always put together a 486 out of some old parts, maybe even for free. (finding someone who will make video clips might be easier, though)

I can get some Orange stuff to work under Win98 (DOS boot, no EMM). Of course, for Win2000, never mind.

bah, that's no excuse. i bought my hardware mainly for capturing, too :) if something is missing on the internet, you shouldn't wait until somebody else adds it, do it yourself :)

I think thats a good idea. i dont get those cool demos to run anymore on my computer. I would like to watch Orange demos and that Plant+Emf demo called Caero.

Or of course you can buy DVD, wait for a year and buy that DemoDVD, but then you don't get the beer and sauna. :)

i'm really sorry robotriot but some people dont really have the hardware to run the old demos and especially to convert them to video stream so shut the fuck up about that do-it-yourself-shit..

i didn't have the hardware either until i bought it especially for that purpose ... i don't really see the problem.

i've just got a new p3windowsMACHINE, but no ms-dos.. and i really dont see the point in buying another machine just cause i need to see some demos once in a year...

takes lots of space, and the spare parts are hard to get. like GUS.. so i prefer that somebody who's got the hardware does it for me. ITS SOCIALISM

and its called a favor, so i owe one for the rambo who does the converting and stuff..

486 computers come in tiny desktop cases you can put below your monitor and cost about 20 euro. if you just bought a new p3 than you must have a lot of money anyway :)

derpiipo, if you said that the vga-pal converter will the most expensive part, well in a 486-configuration it is, but then you must have meant to connect a 486 system by yourself to a vga-pal-converter. But if you already have a 486-system, why capture it to a video sequence? you'll loose quality, and if you already have the 486-system which can run the demo, why bother? =)

yea, that's what i meant, too. if you already have a cheap 486 and can't afford a converter or something, you can at least watch them yourself and don't have to rely on somebody else making videos :)

If someone is indeed able to make AVI's out of old MS-DOS Demos then please encode them in the DivX Format...
Gives you better visual quality when viewing fullscreen.

sorry DivX is dumb. use some widely supported format that will be supported in 5 years from now instead. (I'm pretty sure you'll have the problem all over again in a few years of trying to find a divx codec that works with your windows2013)

windows / linux / macos - yes, divx is available for most os'es with a "fast" hardwareplatform.

depends if you are talking about divx or opendivx. The first one is available as binary only codecs as far as I know. .. and binaries rot.
