category: general [glöplog]
Earlier today I installed it on my younger brothers windows laptop and we compared loading speed of some heavy pages. Impressive. Well done google.
My first thought about Google Chrome was: WTF?!? Where can i change the language?!
Anyway, it's nice.
Anyway, it's nice.
What sort of ex soviet language is that?
what's 'ex soviet language'? never heard of it. anyway, chrome is fast and nice. I may forget about FF one day if it gets the google toolbar and some other features.

the first good piece of end-user software that google ever made
yeah because their search-engine is horrible and gmail doesnt have one of the very best spam filters and straightforward almost ad-less webinterfaces
*cough*
google rocks, face it. (hereby not implying that all other companies suck or do not rock)
im actually a fan of google, too. Having different services working togheter is a great idea, but if you lose controll over your data, it is not really nice i think.
To Google's credit they do seem very much in control of what they're doing, and any company that grows to sufficient size gets this sort of scrutiny whatever they do. It's not as if small companies tend to be any better at privacy issues and such, they just don't have the same amounts of data, and what they do with the data they have (which is often quite horrendous) often goes unnoticed when only hundreds or thousands as opposed to millions of people are affected. To put it another way, if Google does have the best intentions, what could they do to prove that, besides things like releasing open-source projects, providing free services with minimal advertising, etc., bearing in mind they also do employ a lot of people and have an obligation (even legally) to "maximise their profits", plus the legal climate forces them to be extremely defensive at all times (see: Chrome EULA)
Not to say what they're doing is ethical. That Viacom/Youtube lawsuit springs to mind, the result of which was that Viacom was to receive a copy of Youtube's complete user history database. Why would they store that information in the first place? What non-Big-Brotherish purpose does it serve? Meh. I rant. Here's a random image:

The Lion King cycle will be back soon
i hope google will make a photosynth too
I have to say, been using it for however long its been out and its darned addictive. Mostly mean that about the omni bar, seems to seamlessly decipher whether i want to visit a site or search for stuff and gives me wikipedia link too!. Sweet. Really noticed how much i liked it when went back to opera today. Opera still is my homeboy.

How's my German:

Google Chrome records your input and surfing habits in various ways and transmits this data to Google in a personalised form. Kill ID for Chrome deletes your personal identification number, disables the appropriate settings and blocks the data paths to Google. Kill ID for Chrome is freeware, i.e. it can be downloaded and used for free.
In the latest version 1.1.0.0 the surface was completely revised. It is also possible to undo any changes that have been made to Google Chrome.
This is how Google Chrome violates your privacy:
Browser identification:
- Google Chrome allocates a unique number to each installed browser with which you can be identified as a user.
Autocompletion:
- Your entries in the address bar are transmitted to Google, from where suggestions for completions to addresses and search terms are received.
Suggestions in case of navigation errors:
- When you mistype an internet address or it doesn't exist, your input is transmitted to Google.
Usage statistics and crash reports:
- Google Chrome transmits data that reflects your usage patterns and sends crash reports to Google.
Google Update:
- Google Chrome silently installs the Google Update program and automatically launches it on powerup.
Restore your privacy. With the free program, Kill ID for Chrome, you can prevent Google from spying on you.
I wonder if the interface designers are aware of this apparently common term in the "design world":
"chrome: n.
Showy features added to attract users but contributing little or nothing to the power of a system. “The 3D icons in Motif are just chrome, but they certainly are pretty chrome!” Distinguished from bells and whistles by the fact that the latter are usually added to gratify developers' own desires for featurefulness. Often used as a term of contempt."

megazoom: strange definition, had never heard about it... in the broswer's world, however, the "chrome" (also used in safari, firefox and IE), is whatever is around the web page content... so it does make sense to call a browser "chrome" (it does indeed fuck up some language constructs, specially if you do web browser plugins :-) )
