NVScene 2008!

category: general [glöplog]
just a thought out of the blue... if ps would get a demobox and makes a demo with it it's hard to tell whether or not the actual hardware works. :P

actually i just wanted to see the list to clearly see the bias on the selection criteria.

So, you don't want to discover if there was any bias, because in your head clearly there just has to be? What a nice starting point.

The demobox kits were given out to an extremely diverse group of people/groups, mostly based on first-come-first-serve (as anyone who went to BP can confirm I guess), and if you don't want to accept that because nvision=cancer then that's just too damn bad.

Oh, and here's an interview with Temis from NVIDIA which sheds some light on how NVSCENE came to be and what the idea behind both the party and the demobox kits was.

"extremely diverse group of people/groups, mostly based on first-come-first-serve"

as will naturally reflect on the list.

which is not being announced...

I eternify myself in this my most positive statement on the Temis interview: Good.
To all who are waiting for talk footage -- I just traded email with Bunny / demoscene.tv and we're working something out. I'm installing new software this weekend (thanks iq!) and will be editing stuff for either Temis or demoscene.tv or both. So... it's in motion.

I missed Mentor's talk, though, due to stupidity on my part :-( I really really hope he releases his slides!

trixter: That's great! Thanks again for being such a great sport and helping with recording. I guess you could call it practice for Mind Candy HD.. hm...? HM??! :) Oh, and I think (and hope) that demoscene.tv got Mentor's talk, but I'm still waiting for a response from Bunny on that one.

You're fishing for something that just isn't there.

That's correct; there will never be a full, official list. Feel free to ask around though, because beople who got boxes and people who applied but didn't get boxes are free to talk about it as much as they like.

ps, and don't forget to wear that tin foil hat!

that, or be specific about your accusations. right now you're just making a fool of yourself.

maybe we should've called it the democube. kinda like the gamecube, only without chuchu rocket.

...especially because chuchu rocket was on the dreamcast... (sigh) >_<

skrebble: i was hoping to put pressure on transparency, but i guess if all the right people got their cut i should just go with the flock and ignore it. its cool that scene.org representatives got to be the one to secretly determine who got what. that'll bring lots of confidence to the staff for their unbiasedness in future debacles of similar nature. i'll just mention we priveligied an "extremely diverse group of people/groups, mostly based on first-come-first-serve" and everyone will be happy.

I didn't get a demobox, either.

Nor did I apply for one, but I'm disappointed they didn't send me one automatically....
gloom: "You're fishing for something that just isn't there." yes, indeed there is no transparency on the matter. perhaps someone should fix that.

nutman: oh! the trolls have arrived to miss the point! how nice of you to join us.

ps: Somehow I get the feeling you're thinking of something very specific, so I'll just quote skrebbel: "be specific about your accusations. right now you're just making a fool of yourself."

Also, since you bring it up:

1) Scene.org representatives did not "get to be the one to secretly determine who got what", which should have been pretty obvious to anyone who has seen the Temis interview or spent more than two seconds reading up on the demobox kit-gig. Almost half of the kits were given out when sceners came up to Temis and the rest of the NVScene gang at Breakpoint and talked to them about it. First-come first-serve. Pretty straight-forward I'd say, but then again; I don't see conspiracies (*zing*) in everything.

2) I think you'll find that Scene.org started setting a presendence for saying "we chose these entries among an extremely diverse group of people/groups" maaany years ago. :)
