NVScene 2008!

category: general [glöplog]
"Youth Uprising is a demo group created to keep the demo scene alive by attracting young people. We believe the scene should return to its former glory, and we also believe that kids like us are its future. The demo scene to come is not grim, and we are the proof."

I wrote that :D

And to elaborate more on that statement our goal is really to show that young sceners don't suck and should really get out there and produce stuff they like and really just to get involved in the demoscene.

Honestly there's nothing I've found bad about the demoscene so far. You produce art and learn things at the same time, you get together with people from all around the world to share in your similar interests and to just have fun. My point is more young people should really get involved and discover how great it is to really pull together some realtime underground art you can be proud of.

And one more thing - NVScene '08 was the first demoparty I've ever attended...I've competed in other parties but this was the first time I've actually been there to see the crowd's reaction to my work and actually met people so far, and it really was a fantastic experience for me that if I could do again I would, a thousand-fold.

It really bothers me how much people are bashing it when they weren't even there..

please, stop doing that... 18 years in the scene didn't teach me much, but 1 thing is damn clear to me: there's two kinds of criticism... the one that you should use to your advantage, and the one that you shouldn't even consider to give a flying fuck about.

rule 1: make sure you have fun making demoscene prods
rule 2: ignore everything else and go back to rule 1

:-)

- "OMG teh scene is dead"
- "OMG, spons0rzz buying teh scene"
- "OMG, I could do that in s0ftware"

have all been part of the scene since I can remember - it probably wont die untill the scene does.
Meanwhile I participate in producing stuff and enjoying parties as much as I can ;)

no, but a lot of people were bandying about the terms house and techno without displaying deep understanding of it.

About NA critical mass: we got that at Blockparty this year. It lived and breathed and had excitement and warmth in ways that nvision's money fire could only approach at great GREAT expense. There are a LOT of retro platform and fringe OS demosceners in the US, and a lot of trackers. nvision doesn't serve them, but BP does.

Anyone saw this show at NVision08?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKK933KK6Gg
yeah i saw. looked more like cheap fan service than anything else.
Also, to see it we had to attend the closing ceremony, which contained a good part of useless self-congratulating speeches and the sight of 200 fat lan-gamers.
was not worth it.

i like it how that's probably the only thing 90% of the people will remember from NVISION.

they -might- also remember a tired 30-year old screaming "SCHEISSAAAHH" and "AMIGAAA" at the top of his lungs...

At least I noticed that in the 4k intro stream, and thought: "ah, everything went ok at NVscene" ;)

I'm sorry if this has been already asked, but were the seminars recorded? case true: are they (going to be) uploaded anywhere?

yes and yes

Trace: We have two sources of recordings for the seminar talks, and both of them need to be edited together, which can take a wee bit of time, since demoscene.tv is in France, and Trixter is in the US :)

actually, demoscene.tv is still in the US :D
