NVScene 2008!
category: general [glöplog]
(not that anyone's offended. i just have to think every time you use the word for people)
Not offended, but I got into the scene in 1990 and we've (north americans) have always called european sceners Euros. My use of the slang term predated the currency :) and besides we all know what I mean.
I'm more interested in an answer to my original question...

we will agree to being called euros if you manage to convince the canadians to agree with us calling them americans :)

* Americans and Euros can get along wonderfully in the demoscene.
That meant, of course that

* Computer graphics techniques are so universal that you can hold a conversation with any demoscener, even if you can barely understand each other due to English not being your native language.
Try to learn the other persons native language and see if you have more success
esperanto will save the scene!
I don't remember the language being a major show stopper... is it only me?

* Future of the scene for the next two years in two words: Ambient Occlusion.
Where have you been for the last two years? :)
I just wanted to say that the entries in both compos were well worth the wait...really impressive productions!
Can we call the Norwegians and the Swedish sceners also as Euros? they still use their old currency :)
.. yeah coz we're like.. not in the eu ;)
How about "Europeans". It's not that much extra effort, you know. But either way you have to convince the British that they're Europeans too. Can't we all just be "people"?
sniff.... Denmark was also forgotten! :)
Poor Trixter, already stuck on semantics :)
Paneuropeans...
so that we don't exclude all our selfish scandinavian friends, our sexy eastern friends, and those bastard brits!

It doesn't flow as well as 'Panamericans' .. maybe we should make up a new term like, "Everyopean" or "Europanapean"
Thanks a lot for the 4k intro compo stream. And conveniently before the announcement of the winners. It made all the difference!
Watching a compo stream together with the eventual winner of the compo is certainly not the worst way to spend an evening away from party. ;)

Paneuroturkopeans?

YO BITCHES! A LIST OF EVERYONE WHO GOT FREE HARDWARE WILL BE BE PUBLISHED AFTER NVSCENE 08 IS FINISHED! DON'T LIKE IT? TOUGH COOKIES!!
yeah right, its time for some bashing :)
I knew it, nvidia bought demomakers, and if they didn't release, they'll pay the price. Makes you think if you want this kind of behaviour in the future of the scene.
Here we go again...
xtrim, yadayada. you might've forgotten that we're all friends, anyway.
the list should be published, even if simply because otherwise the message is "free hardware, there you go. no strings attached". besides just how silly that is in itself, i'd honestly even feel slightly cheated; i couldve gotten a new computer for free too, without doing anything for it.
i really can't imagine that there will be fucktros, bashings, fingerpointing, etc to the people who didn't make it. i'm pretty sure every scener with any sort of social contacts within the scene will know one or two of those people. i sure do, at least. that's not going to make me hate them, all of a sudden. it's not even gonna make me rub it in. just the fact that they didn't make it and felt that they should is enough - nobody wants a mudfight. all it will do is provide some extra social pressure of the likes of "ok, you suck, you didn't hand in a demo. so NEXT PARTY! and make it good!".
it was everybody's fair right not to sign up - i knew i'd be busy this summer, so i didn't sign up. saying that it's so mean from the big evil company is putting the responsibility where it isn't. all the pressure is coming from the community, and not from nvidia. this is only fair, as nvidia sponsored the community, not random individuals (afaik, my little cousin who likes quake didn't get a free demokit).

skrebby: You have a cousin who likes quake? :O
xTr1m: I don't think you can put it that way. It was more a kind of motivation because I knew that there would be a lot of pressure on me after the party if I didn't make anything, which is OK, since I was perfectly aware of that before I signed up for it.
So, getting something done that I wouldn't have done otherwise and scorring a new computer at the same time is a pretty good deal, I would say. Call me bought if you want to, I don't really care because I only got good things out of it, and I don't think that NVidia proffitted excessively from Evil Helicopters Attack With Bombs, at least not before I start releasing more stuff.
