Scene.org-Awards 2008
category: general [glöplog]
What about the procedural gfx 4k's by Rgba? Do they fit in any scene.org award category?
the *demos* that impressed me this year were (in random ordeR):
mesagin, only one wish, that mfx one from the intel compo, metamorphosis, regus andromeda.
I agree that it was a better year for 64k, and not just because of the fairlight one (which should get the award easily)

The Seeker.
Salinga's list looks like a good start, but panic room is obviously the new debris/lifeforce of this year so far (followed by atrium and field trip imho).
the question is whether or not linger in the shadows is included. if it is it would be the demo of the year imo, and a hard one to beat.
I had forgotted about Craft: Best demo on an alternative(home made!) platform :)
And i was only thinking on the Demo side, shame on me :/ both rgba 4k proc gfx for sure as a nomination, if i had to only 1 from rgba personally i'd go for ixaleno.
4k's have had some really great prods, like Atrium, Psylteflesk.

i pretty much agree with salinga's choice.
Does it matter that there is no bin release of Linger, only a capture of the demo? Or can demos be nominated even if there is no bin release for everyone to download and run?
doesn't it count as a "wild video" then?
BEST OF THE REST
Salinga : besides that, Linger in Shadows might end up not being free once it's released.
More importantly, Sony paid Plastic almost fulltime to make that "production", I'm not sure this kind of work belongs to the scene.org awards (like the 3DMark demos would probably not belong there either) but I guess it's up to the jury to decide.

The point being to draw a line between demoscene stuff and professional stuff ordered and paid by companies. Or else we can as well let Dice enter the scene.org awards at some point with a free demo of Mirror's Edge :)
From the top of my head...
Demos: "Metamorphosis" / "Falling Down" / "Only One Wish"
64k: "Panic Room" (obviously) / But I prefer "Incognito"
4k: "Atrium", no doubt about it...
Anim: "Field Trip", no doubt about it
Wild: "Craft", no doubt about it
Most choices are quite obvious...this lends to the theory that there have been only few highlights so far this year. There is a good range of "7 out of 10" or "8 out of 10" demos, alas no perfect 10 like "Debris" or "Lifeforce".
But let me say this: it has been a great year for smash...Falling Down, Realtime Generation, Panic Room, Deep Science - wow! He really is the driving force this year. Kudos!

Keops, perfect idea as i'm currently killing bugs in that game :)
pantaloon : that's precisely why I mentionned it, because of you and a few other demoscene faggots over there ;)
keops, :)
lol keops, then Future Crew will release some Alan Wake cinematics at next Assembly :D
Astro: I doubt that the productions in the demo and 4k category will remain as candidates after NVision. The rest are pretty obvious, since it hasn't been such an active wild-demo year.
I will quit the scene if Unibrau gets a nominee for Wild because of lack of options :P

Favourite soundtracks in no particular order:
Puryx - Atrium
Keito - Falling Down
Chromag - Digital Garden
Chaser - Soliloquy
Slyspy - Vision
Reed - Panic Room
Mixer - Incognito
It's really an outstanding year for demoscene music. Oh, and I just love Daxx' final Version of "Amazing Life". We only need a demo for that one ;)
