I came from germany and don't speak a word spanish, but I totally agree with most opinions abough: THIS PARTY ROCKED!
And yes, here was scene-spirit alive at it's best.

Only one bad thing, wich the orgas should improve for the next bcn-party, when hopefully more foreign demosceners come:
When moderating the events, please drop at least some words in english, cause scene-language is english for being international.

And a big sorry to the guy in sleepingroom 3 who had to borne my heavy snoring! I cannot do anything against, so I looked for the smallest sleeping room. Why didn't you simply change the room, or where there also heavy snoring guys? Until next BCN I will loose some weight and then hopefully the snoring will disappear :/

Scythoior, it was nice to see some non-spanish sceners. I'm sure the orgos will speak more english next time. You only have to ask them ;)
Thank you for coming here and making this party better and better. Every party should have foreign sceners to make it better. Bye!
gloom: xmplay plays some .it wrong. also fucksup on madtrackers .xm format (left to know if its madtracker or xmplays fault). either way it sucks. modplug is better and thats that. :) dont make me do a scene.org poll to prove my point. :P

ModPlug craps finetune for chip samples - it sounds terrible, totally detuned.

Obviously the best solution would have been playing the mods in their native program. That is... fast tracker, impulse tracker, whatever...
And the fact is that normally modplug treats relatively well the chiptunes.
Bcn party r00lz... Nice prods, backstage, Org, Sound, Video and of course ppl.

BCN - dah Party!!
oh! my Goood!! i were sleeping three or four hours only in all weekend and i were drinking, speaking and dancing the rest of time.
Sunday night we (Jcl, SiN and tolemac) sleeped in Talsit Hotel (placed in front of partyplace) where the receptionist was cross-eyed :D, the TV was blured and had no remote-control, the keyring seemed a doorhandle and we were doing jokes until 2:30am about the cross-eyed recepcionist :P and "Alcacer de San Juan". oh my god!.
the best party ever.

Scythoior: although I understand English should be spoken at the party, there's a big problem associated to it. About 95% of the attendants at BCNParty were Spanish, and sadly enough, Spain is not recognized by their english-speaking people (most don't at all, rest do it in a fancy way). I'm sure there would be no problem in speaking english if more attendants would come from foreign countries, although I guess everything should be said -also- in Spanish. Most important announcements were told in English by JamQue though, so I guess it did kinda work too (personally, I wouldn't mind everything being announced in English at all).

As for XMPlay vs ModPlug, the computer where (at least the jury) we heard the modules on, didn't have ModPlug installed and SPiTe (the one who was using that computer) was not the owner... hell, it didn't even have WinZip installed :-) However, he did ask (in English too ;) wether we should find a modplug to let people choose... majority of people in the jury said XMPlay was ok, so there was no need to delay. As for bad sounding, the equalization of the mixing table and the reverb of the 2nd stage did cause a lot of mods sounding bad (rather than being XMPlay's fault). At least our module sounded like it completely cancelled middle range, because reverb at the stage was making bass very loud, and highed pitched samples sounded like middle range... yet it sounds as it should in XMPlay.

I don't think there's so much difference between XMPlay and ModPlug replaying, I blame the sound system and room accoustics more than the player, plus, ModPlug (at least, the last version I used) doesn't show the patterns and I personally think it's something to judge (looped samples, etc., which can be clearly seen in the patterns, and not always just when listening). Obviously, the ideal solution would have been using the tracker the module was made on, but that would have delayed both the jury and the show too much I guess. So, IMO, XMPlay was a wise decision :-)

scythoior: Yep...some missing english speaking dudes...next time reach me and I'll gently translate everything (I was the freak dude with the Doom1 Tshirt! :P)

NOrk: Yes...I've literally lost the papers (demo jury stuff) but not for vodka reasons, sorry for the delay...

ops, also I liked much the Nork dj-session, and Visual System of xplsv, managed by trace/xplsv.
Btw, greetings for mac/xplsv that can´t assist to the party, I remembered him in the "Razmataz disco", the last year we lost ourselves in a "Apollo disco" in the rooms of above, Ufix, Cimedia, Ithaqua and more sceners found us drunked and dancing arround of a boy who played a metal drum :D.

here is an idea: next year headphones for all jury members hehehe :D and letting ppl hear more then once before voting would be nice too. i think we can all agree it's a better strategy for evaluating the tracks.. :) might take a little more time though..

Although, many of the points made in this thread are valid, I'd like to say something. I think it should be the jury's responsability to ask for a replay if so is needed. I don't think it's wise to replay all tracks just for the sake of it. If a member of the jury has any hesitations he should demand a replay, I don't think SPiTe would have had anything against replaying some of the tracks. But the organization cannot read minds. Speak up! ;)

sin: i would rather have option to play the tracks on own machine not influencing other jury members personaly but yeh i get your point and you're right.
added on the 2003-11-05 16:48:13 by psenough psenough
ps: it would be cool to arrange some jury-only FTP next year, so jury members get early access to tracks and can listen to them in private/own machine/proper player. I think it's a good idea, although it wouldn't work for demos/intros/etc, where watching them all in the same machine does actually make sense.
added on the 2003-11-05 17:02:18 by sin sin
yeh agreed.
also one thing i didnt quite follow, why didnt we (jury) vote for those (demos & intros) after them beeing shown on the bigscreen? i mean.. something like crowd response is somewhat important to a demos overall value.. not saying that crowd demos should win (i rather see higher technical/talent stuff getting the €€'s personaly) but it can tip the scale in their favor for some prods..
also, since the vote counting is done only in the morning anyways, it could be used for the juries to get to know better how each demo looks like, more watches == better voting me thinks.

im still not convinced on the code/gfx/sound division, but whatever majority of ppl agrees with. someone should do a poll about that me thinks.

Finally, i'm in london again. So, today thinking about all the travel.. i'm with PS, now, i really think that the code/gfx/sound division isn't good idea.

Usually the people have no problems with bcnparty results but today i spoke with two anonymous sceners that have some complaints about.. And yes, i'm with they, i think the results this year wasn't fair enough.

The idea of divide code/gfx/sound have some problems. For example: adding to the competition petroleo.. red is still with better code and maybe some can think with better graphics (no everybody likes jull/boah brown style). So, in this case, the winner probably was again red/rgba. Do you think this is fair? Imho, petroleo as demo is perfect, red isn't (i'm sorry rgba :P).

We have to vote as demo, maybe a demo have poor graphics and poor code and poor music, but as demo kick ass, and maybe have great code/gfx/music, but as demo is simply shit.

People of bcnparty, please, think about for the next edition.
