The average number of releases per party in a given year has, as can be seen from the above chart, been relatively stable for about a decade. Despite current public opinion, the ongoing year, 2008, is, in fact the year with the highest average number of releases per party thus far in the whole history of the demoscene.

More extensive research into this matter may be made in the future if cooperation with our Portuguese colleagues, and access to their data-mining facilities, is be established.

Where did you get the data for releases/party from? Just wondering if you have proven that the scene is alive or how good people have become at adding new information on pouet

I would imagine that a "productions per year" would be a rather sad sight.

the graph proves the impression that since 1997 was the climax for the scene for a long time. but since 2007 the stagnation is over and we are seeing a regain of strong releases mainly because of groups taking initiative with fresh ideas and massive demos. imho kudos go to groups like ASD, FR, FLT, Still, MFX, etc.

and nvision will be the next climax.

this is "jar's law": demoscene activity comes in waves of 10 years each.

go figure.

dixan: the problem is that since 2000, rob is jarig has been released increasingly often and now makes up half of the releases at any particular party.

Not that I doubt Dixan or the Norwegian computational analysts, but I have a strong feeling this chart does not reflect reality. :)
