You know, actually you can get a 3-5 year old 12" ultraportable off ebay for the same price. Benefits: larger screen, larger keyboard, longer battery run time, most likely not slower and weight is same.

IMO the main benefit of these "netbooks" is that they are cheap enough to toss them around in your bag and take them everywhere without worrying about having to replace it. A $800 machine like Kohjinsha SC3 kinda defeats the purpose.

I'm happy with my acer... and what WGS(HeLLoWorld).

i use a 12" dell latitiude d410 right now. it was cheap has a nice 1024x768 screen and is fast enough. i couldn´t get an eee when they started to sell them in germany so i got this used dell with all extras(external combo drive, bag, dockingstation) for the same price (about 300€) and i´m very happy that i got this one instead of the asus-toy.
and poem to a horse runs just fine :)

p.s. the new medion akoia mini seems to be much better then the eee

hmmm so that thing somehow gets random composite in and puts it fullscreen on any computer with a usb port? sounds like a must have for every compo organiser!

I got a Grabster AV 150 MX , I have only tried it with c64 and amiga but so far it is true that it can handle all analog sources(unlike a hybrid tv tuner I bought first). Not sure how good framerate there is on the capture, but its good enough for me to work with, and eliminates the need for carrying another screen to the party.

but does it only work well for capturing or do you just get it live on screen? would it do for running compos?

skrebbel, I dont think it works well for capturing or watching at more than 30 fps, there was some discussion on csdb before about the troubles of capturing video at 50 fps from a c64

I got one of those EeePC 701 with WinXP* and my opinion is that it is damn handy. Oh and forget about the SD Slot, it just don't work.
*-because it runs 2 times faster than the Linux version they are selling, really...

I've used quite a few of the sub notebooks here at work, and I'd say they're great but only if you have an actual use for it, otherwise it's just another fancy toy.

To put it in perspective a little:

- they're very small, which makes them convenient for carrying around, but pretty unpleasant to work on compared to a normal laptop. The keyboards are too small, and on some (was it the original eee?) the trackpad is stupidly tiny so you're forced to carry a mouse.

- they're also slow, plenty fast enough for a lot of things, but don't expect to run anything heavy.

- the ones that come with linux.. well, it's linux. If you like linux, that's a good thing. If you don't mind using a different interface and you'll use the build in apps, it's also good. If you'll want to change the setup, install new apps etc., and don't know linux well, expect some pain :)

I really dig the MSI Wind U100:
10" screen (1024x600, LED-Backlit), Atom 1,6GHz (overclockable), 1 GB RAM, 80GB Disk, b/g WiFi, Fast Ethernet, Bluetooth, Webcam, VGA, 3xUSB, Card reader and a proper keyboard for ~400€
Install Ubuntu and off you go...

The Eee 1000(H) specs also look really good.

Soon there will be tiny-ugly-puters at €50. That's probably good for the ones who want to experiment of distributed systems...

I ordered a eee901 from overclockers uk and it was dispatched yesterday. However, amazon and others say that it will be available after the 10th of August. How can that be then ?

I think I'm gonna buy one of these eee's with Linux soon, which is not faggotry.
