Hehe - I must admit that I listened a LOT to dance music untill I discovered Astral projection (and goa-trance in general)

Here are one of my hidden favourites: Centory - Point of no return http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGVQjz0Reqs

But what was it with all the rapping in dance tunes? :D

Oh - and don't forget: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jZeXkuTYbo :)

Yeah, the 90s was the greatest music era in my opinion. Music finally broke out of the standard mould, underground artists started getting exposure and music became so unpredictable. So many NEW sounds, so many new artists, so much variation.

I'm not saying I liked everything, but I was thankful to have some variation in music and to see artists coming up with something new.

I would argue that that decade was the 80s (post punk, new wave, synthpop, shitloads of metal genres, all gothic subgenres, new kinds of rock, original hip-hop and rap, loads of electronic music) and then the 90s came and killed all that was cool and good with cheesy britpop, disgusting mainstream r'n'b and overcommercialization. And the 2000s don't deserve a mention at all..

Hey hey, the nineties brought a lot of interesting electronic music! Not the commercial crap obviously, but... And post punk/new wave started in the late seventies (see modern lovers, wire, etc) imo.

I'm with you against britpop and RnB! Awful awful stuff and not even a new sound.

The 80s definitely had its innovators and pioneers, especially towards the end of the decade. But I feel a lot of early to mid 80s music was kind of "safe" and didn't stray so far from existing genres. Whereas genres such as drum & bass, trance and techno sounded like nothing I'd heard before - although not always in a good way. :)

The 70's weren't all Led Zeppelin.

The 80's weren't all New Order.

The 90's weren't all Chemical Brothers.

And on the other hand, the 2000's haven't been all Usher.

The further back in time you go, the more the chaff will have been forgotten, and the brighter the true gems will shine in historical perspective.
