Is that the cheap supermarket thing? If it is, then it sells some cheap stuff, that's about all I know. Useful huh?

LIDL rocks... but ALDI is better.

yeah, ALDI is better and probably cheaper too (in Holland at least), they sell some pretty decent cheap computers too
LIDL is ugly, i wouldn't buy anything there again.
Often the products are out-of-date, there is mud on the ground, and I wouldn't count on the freshness of any of their foods.

Hey nice idea! Maybe analogue could add a new 'supermarket' prod category! Maybe even with different platforms 'el-cheepo, delicatessen, DIY' etc!!

LRF and the swedish milkproducers are apparently upset since lidl are selling german milk, which according to them is produced under worse conditions than swedish milk. i dont know much about this, so i'll go watch arla/dcs to learn more

Surely a prod type of 'Pub' would be better, with platforms country, bar, club, and train station.

Put my thumb up for the Hatton Arms. Decent beer, old-style country pub atmosphere and a barmaid called frosty.

Not the old 'Swedish milk comes from the farmers wife, German milk comes from the brothels of Berlin' argument again please.

well... lidl has been in finland for around a year now, and when it started here, there was a lot of controversy regarding e.g. the cheap beer they're selling, and the fact that their beer bottles can't be recycled using normal means. and of course there was the usual talk about how no one really knows where the stuff in lidl is coming from (what country etc) and that they don't write it on the product because apparently they don't have to.

oh and afterwards the finnish supermarket chains have introduced their own cheap beer brands as a counter-attack, but i don't think they're that popular. neither is the lidl beer btw.

but anyway, the fuss about lidl calmed down quite quickly.

Stuff form LIDL is so cheap here in Greece, that makes one be suspicious. I usually say that each bite from LIDL prods gets away 3 secs from your life :) But what the heck, they've got nice Algida like ice creams which are cheaper than a chewing gum. I didn't see any LIDL at Finland, where do you people hide them ? :P

I don't know what all the fuzz about LIDL is coming from... it's been in my city for a long time, and I've seen not that much price difference, actually, you can find cheaper prices at places like "Mercadona" (national supermarket chain) plus most products (at least, the one that they sell here) come from germany and it states so in many places.

Product quality is not THAT bad if you want to pay less... then again, that Mercadona chain has its own brand ("Hacendado") which probably the cheapest you'll find around, and usually the manufacturer is a different big company, so product quality is pretty good.

There are so many supermarket chains in Spain that one would not know where to choose: Pryca / Continente [now Carrefour, bought by french ppl], Mercadona, Caprabo, Hypercor, Dia, Arbol, etc., all of them being big surfaces, if we'd talk about small supermarkets, there'd be TONS of them to choose... LIDL has good prices, but not so much better than any of those I mentioned (you can find cheaper prices at Mercadona or Caprabo), so I personally choose to buy brands I know... at least, the choice is there for anyone to choose :-)

Perhaps the fuss is cause it's the first foreign chain in sweden? There was a lot of stuff here years back when aldi opened the first stores. Lidl has been around for quite a while, with no fuss at all (first time I saw it, i didn;t know what it was).

JEEESUS you are like old women with nothing better to talk about! Next you'll be talking about the price of eggs, your rheumatism or delayed buses.

Do yourselves a favour and never talk about this kind of thing in social situations!
Talking about CHEAP BEER in a SCENE forum? Where's the world coming to.

Talk about Cheap condoms.

jcl, it's also a national issue... i'd reckon the overall price level is much lower in spain than in finland or sweden.

psonice, i think that's exactly what it's about.

shane, do yourself a favour and drop dead.

lidl has only been here for a week and already there has been complaints from lots of their employees, about how they have been treated and that they had to sign contracts agreeing to work overtime whenever its being demanded

zafos: The Finnish Lidls aren't located in the city centers, they're mostly in suburbs or smaller towns near the cities. I haven't been to Lidl myself yet, though I guess I should.

It said in the paper this morning that the employees also had to sign a contract to not talk to the press about their situation. I wonder if Lidl also have the same policy about the unions as McDonald's and Toys'R'Us...

A strage thing with aldi in the UK, the staff are paid about £9 (~€15) per hour, similar staff in other supermarkets get about half that. But they have no computer system at all, and they are expected to remember the price of every item in the store! Crazy shit.
