PC Games & Demos with PC Speaker soundtrack
category: general [glöplog]
Hey there!
I always wanted to make a compliation of the 1 bit soundtracks of PC Games like:
-Lotus Turbo Challenge
-Stunts
And demos:
Just the Spacepigs demo???
I know, many of you hate that beeps. Maybe its just for me then. But i'd like some hints on games that have a PC Beeper sountrack. But no samples like in Pinball Fantasies.
Any suggestions on games/Demos?

Interesting enough, the Lotus III PC version had both speaker and AdLib music, but you could only listen to the car noises if you chose no soundtrack in the CD player. But, in the Amiga version, you could have both the MOD (!) soundtrack and the noises at the same time, IIRC.
That was a greeeat game which gave me hours of entertainment.

Well, i only played the game in 2 player mode. Also to note: the two player mode only ran smoothly on a fairly good Pentium Class machine. While you could somewhat play the game on a 386.
Also, i heard that Duke Nukem 1 had some music over PC Speaker.

Leisure Suit Larry has a nice PC beeper soundtrack.. the melody is quite memorable at least, fear Al Lowe! :)
And yeah, Pinball Fantasies blew me away back then. It's what gotten me in touch with mod music.

don't forget digger ... which did that in the fucking early 80s!
not a demo or game, but a "pc speaker tracker":

Thanks for the infos so far. If you know some early demos or intros that have a remarkable tune, post them here.
while you say "duke nukem".
iirc commander keen had some "music" on the title screen...at least in "aliens ate my babysitter"

Cool. I also found out that Maniac Mansion Tune. With this, i remembered, that the CGA version of International karate on PC has also a too speedy soundtrack. I tried IK on my Commodore PC-1 with 4.77Mhz and it was way too fast. But at least a soundtrack!!!! :)

As this URL proves, you really had car noises when Adlib selected! ;-)

elitexXx: I will check that one as soon as i'm not too lazy to turn on Magnum's dos machine here. He also has a Mod tracker for PC Speaker. I hope they are not the same.
I seem to recall Inertia Player supporting PC-speaker playback
Exin: Check PWP prods (ie: IKU or ISI), all of them worked with PC speaker, AdLib & sb16.
btw: Wasn't there a fairlight cracktro reproducing music through the PC speaker using PWM? (Alone In The Dark 1/2?). I clearly remember that, but maybe it was a driver I installed back then... :\ (486 DX2, win3.11 / DOS 6.21)

The DOS version of Civilization had a rather awful PC Speaker soundtrack.
Pinball Fantasies had a great Pc speaker soundtrack!
Aw sorry... didn't read your original post carefully enough :-)
I remember yo! by Future Crew and hex appeal from cascada (in hex appeal, PC Speaker sound was only an option).

does anyone know where I could find the soundtrack to 'Elvira 1 mistress of the dark'. Amazing.
Almost all Apogee releases from late 80' to early 90' (Keens.Secret Agent, Duke Nukum/Nukem, Biomenace, &c). Many of them have been also released in freeware in the recent years.
Also older Lucas stuff has bleeper/adlib/sb sounds. Loom can be played with pc speaker sounds/music, but it is really irritating!

Some of Codemasters' Dizzy PC conversions have quite nice speaker music (multichannel, just like on 48K Speccy :)
and.. I remember a cracktro for Another World. There was a MOD played trough PC speaker.
