What's the story behind the Plastic PS3 demo?

Was the demo shown on the party running on a real PS3 hardware / devkit, or was it shown just in video form? Bonzaj in his seminar talk was saying the demo was originally running at 8FPS when they just moved the unoptimized code over to the PS3 - I hope the final version ran much better than that :P
The demo was shown on something that's almost a real PS3 (as fellow console developer I shall shut up about the details ;) with so little hardware differences that it doesn't affect performance. That hardware was connected directly to the Breakpoint audio/video system and the demo was run live.

Probably the same unit PSN developers get.

kb, so a devkit of some kind - that's great, as long as it runs the same as on the stock console. Were you involved in making the demo as well?
reptile: pssh ;)

I think, IF they somehow try to charge money for viewing these "special sponsor supported demos", they can stick them....

Well then, hacker groups will have to strip the copy-protection off of them, slap on an intro scroller, and release to the world. That'll get kind of meta.

GbND, you got it all wrong - what they will do is replace the loading routine and put splash screen at the end of the demo saying how they debugged it and replaced the "useless trackloader" :P At least this demo didn't win anything so they won't be able to complain about that :P

It's not a game :-)

The underworld of the internet known as gaming forums is ON it. :D

But most people have no clue about what a scene demo is. I've done my part in attempting to educate in a few blogs and neogaf at least. Gotta spread the word, bring the scene to the masses! >:D

(or am I making a terrible mistake?? :s)

I could make a little layer on pouet with sg like "Hi, it appears you came here from kotaku, would you like to learn more about the demoscene?" :D

If you're so desperate for more clues on Linger in Shadows, there's last year's presentation of Pico Engine at Riverwash with some objects and scenes from it played as examples (the tentacle character called Twister's Helper is there, as well as the Basset).

I know the screen quality is shit (I feel like cutting myself when I compare it to The Actual Size Monster from BP ;), the sound is poor and the whole presentation is in Polish but that's at least something I can share for now http://www.riverwash.info/2008/j_an.php

Sorry, forgot that Pouet doesn't recognize URLs by itself http://www.riverwash.info/2008/j_an.php
