xernobyl: Interlacing is necessary because there isn't enough bandwidth available in an HD over-the-air signal to do 1080p at anything over 30fps. If you want to watch football at the full 50 (PAL) or 60 (NTSC) frames per second, interlacing is still unfortunately necessary. It's messy, but I'd rather have the option than be limited to 720p at that framerate.

Don't you think that 1280x720@60Hz is enough? You had 640x240@60Hz until 3 years ago!

As someone who has scrutinized 720p @ 60 and 1080i @ 60 in great detail, 1080i gives you more resolution in still scenes, and it's fairly obvious when looking at it. Whether or not what you're watching actually uses that is up to you :-)

I'm not saying it's great for all things (obviously nobody should watch a film in an interlaced transport); I'm just saying it still has its uses. Don't blame me, blame the standards committees who didn't give enough bandwidth to HDTV :-)

although usually the bandwidth for over-the-air HD signals is too low even for 1080i. (especially with mpeg-2)

Depends on the source material. I've only noticed blocking in close-up fast-moving shots.

It's on hold while I work on my Block Party presentation this week... which I'm planning to have a good capture of Crystal Dream at the bare minimum since DOSBOX has such a problem with it. I was also planning on showing a 100% rendered version of Toast as the author wanted it (he provided a rendering version but we couldn't fit it into MC1). Finally, I was going to show a tweakmode demo; any specific requests?

For tweakmode I think you wanted a recapture of Camorra, right?

And yes, I'll be uploading all of these to wurst for you to molest at your leisure :)

Awesome! Camorra would be nice to have. There are some more demos on my queue page that use fake truecolor.
About the upload. I don't know if I can provide you with a directory where you can upload things. At least I tried and failed to make it work... I'll as scamp about it. Maybe you could contact me via email (MYHANDLE @ untergrund.net) so I can give you the details later on.
