ACiD View 6 for Windows!

category: general [glöplog]
We at ACiD Productions are proud to present our sixth generation viewer for the artscene, ACiD View 6.

Supported graphical image formats include GIF, JPEG, and PNG, as well as formats from the days of dial-up BBSing such as ANSI, ASCII and XBIN. Highlights include the ability to slow down an ANSI animation to emulate a desired modem connection, VGA modes, a built in Amiga Topaz font for Amiga ASCII, smooth scrolling and more.

ACiD View 6 may be downloaded from the following locations:

http://www.acid.org/ftp/avw-600.zip - preferred
http://software.deviantart.com/details.php?id=439
http://www.thuglife.org/cgi/load/load.cgi?/_thug/apps/avw-600.zip

Additional features, namely RIPscrip support, are already underway. We're very interested to receive feedback and suggestions from the community but please RTFM first. =)

Nice tool! Maybe one feature i'd like to see - ability to read a font tag of some sort from the file, so correct font can be selected automatically.

too late: this should have been released in 1998 or
1999 :(
anyways better than never...

It should have been made cross platform and released in the 80's, but its still useful now.

Wow, Windows support in the 80s? That's genious.

Thank you psonice, I forgot to mention that. ACiD View 6 is cross-platform capable and has been tested to work flawlessly under Linux with WineX. I'm curious to know the results if someone could test this on a UNIX platform with just plain old WINE.

Also, we did at one time (I believe 1998) pursue development of ACiD View 5, a Java version but discontinued it due to lack of interest. This isn't the case with the Windows version though. So far we have calculated over 850 downloads of AV6 and it's barely been out half of one week (and that doesn't account for IRC/email transfers either).

Our intent with ACiD View for Windows is to give people from the scene, both new and old, an opportunity to view artwork as it was intended, and we have many other surprise formats, not just RIPscrip, in the works. . . =)

I wasn't suggesting a nice, windows gui based viewer being made in the 80's :)

I just meant that if a basic cross-platform viewer was available back then, most of the problems of finding the right screen size, font, whatever would have been ironed out as the scene developed. And acid view would therefore be nicer and easier to use. Of course, that would never have worked in practice, especially with all the old platform wars going on and stuff.

cute programm! this was overdue, thanks for doing it.
may wishlist for the next version:
- fix that refresh-bug
- introduce selectable amiga keymaps (i want my ümlauts back)
- fullscreen shall be invoked with double-click and shall not alter the display-settings. furthermore a "zoom-to-fit" would be very nice, plus "zoom-in" and "zoom-out" via scroll-whell and +/- keys
- complete iff support for bitmaps and anims would be dead cool

- decrunch PP20 PowerPacker

thumbage up.
wellwellwell, this progy really rocks. i love it.
but what about a "very fast modem" option? Some files are even with 56.6k way too slow.

Surely for fast animation you just leave the modem emulation off?

and a note to all the idiots drawing black on white ascii: YOU SUCK. and now finally theres a viewer to show you HOW MUCH YOU SUCK on windows.

ASCII IS NOT MEANT TO BE VIEWED IN NOTEPAD WITH TERMINAL FONT, GET IT ALREADY.

ferrex your message makes totally NO SENSE when it comes to "oldschool"/amiga ascii. ever seen cygnus editor from inside?
added on the 2003-08-14 00:46:08 by dipswitch dipswitch
im not talking about ami/x, im talking about uncolored ansi, block ascii, that stuff. amiga ascii can be displayed good on any background, with any color, but with block style you use shading, and if you invert that shading to make it look good on a white background (you would need to make it ansi, filled white, drawn black to achieve that in dos) then youre plain stupid and a horrible artist, aside the fact that youre a leecher whore that draws shit in notepad for ftp accounts. (by you, you arent meant ..but the guys who do)
added on the 2003-08-14 20:50:51 by ferrex ferrex
btw, if you ever viewed my asciis on white background you will notice they look good too ..because i rarely use excessive shading anyway ;)

probably thats why im being ripped that much lately.
